Some of the most notable pieces at the museum are works by Schiele and Kokoschka. Located behind the Upper Belvedere palace is 21er Haus, the museum of contemporary art.

You know the reason you're eager to shell out the pricey 15 euros admission fee to visit the Belvedere: Gustav Klimt.

His painting "The Kiss (Lovers)" from 1907 is arguably the most famous Austrian work of art and is part of this museum's permanent collection. It's worth seeing in person because no matter how many photos you've seen of this painting of two lovers embraced in a meadow of flowers, nothing will prepare you for studying the gold leaf accented bronze paint with your own two eyes. It's absolutely gorgeous. It's so popular that there's a faux version where you can line up to take photos in front of it.

The Belvedere has a good collection of sculpture too so if that's your thing, you'll really like it here. You'll also find pieces by Renoir, Manet, Renoir, and other Impressionist era works. Explanations of the artwork are in both German and English, making an audio guide unnecessary.

The permanent collection of 19th and 20th century Austrian is housed high atop Vienna in the Belvedere Palace, the former home of Prince Eugene of Savoy. Take time to wander the grounds and soak in the sweeping views of the city below.

If you're an art lover, you'll definitely want to make the trek to visit this museum.

The former castle of Prinz Eugen now hosts the most famous painting from Gustav Klimt, the Kiss. Also the garden is nice for a walk.

Huge palace and gardens in the middle of the city. I took a wonderful nap next to the fountain and went for a run here the next day. Perfect place to relax and enjoy the breeze.

A beautiful palace, with two buildings that can be visited (both art museums) and with a beautiful garden (yes, book some time for it as well, to truly enjoy it), Belvedere is a must visit museum especially if you like (or want to discover) Klimmt. Some of his most famous paintings are exhibited in this museum, along with art items from various other important and famous artists. I saw it on the run, but will definitely visit again!

The Belvedere, a former palace turned museum, is divided into the Upper and Lower Belvedere. The former boasts the largest Klimt collection in the world, including The Kiss.
So, if you are short on time, do not miss the Upper Belvedere. The Kiss is larger than life and you can't take your eyes of it. It helped, of course, that the crowds were few.
You can also enjoy a nice collection of Expressionism (including Matisse and Gauguin) and the beautiful gardens that are free to access.
You need to take the tram to get there, as it is a little out of the city centre.

A former palace built in the 18th century, it now houses a nice museum dedicated to Austrian art from the middle ages to the present. The gardens are also worth visiting, especially in the spring and summer.

Galleries Belvedere has two beautiful buildings with a formal garden and fountains in between and the grounds and Upper Belvedere offer a view of central Vienna in the distance. The art on display in both buildings features two of Vienna’s most important and famous modern artists, Gustav Klimt and Egon Shiele.

The Belvedere Palace actually consists of two palaces - the Upper and Lower Belvedere. It also houses the Belvedere Museum (home to Gustav Klimt's The Kiss) and hosts a lovely Christmas Market from November through the winter holiday season. Much to see here, though it's not necessarily walkable from city center (especially not in the cold). We took the tram from Zentralfriedhof to the Belvedere and then walked back to city center. You'll pass some sites along the way, but it is a bit of a long walk in the cold.

I loved this palace when I visited in the 1980s and ended up going there three times in ten days. It's not the largest or the grandest in Vienna even, but it is most the beautiful.

The Belvedere is a large palace complex in Vienna with extensive gardens and is a stunning example of baroque architecture. It's a beautiful building with beautiful grounds. My only complaint is that no photography is allowed in the building.
