New York City

As the old capital of Bulgaria, Veliko Tarnovo has a rich and beautiful history. If you're not visiting Tarnovo while in Bulgaria, you are missing out! There are many great restaurants, parks, historical sights, nightlife, boutiques and not to mention the old part of the city where you can see what Veliko Tarnovo used to look like before modern life. There is also a beautiful village nearby called Atbanasi. You can go horseback riding and have a nice beer while enjoying mountain views.

This small university town is busting with history and is set in a beautiful dramatic setting. The Yantra River winds through the center of the city creating a gorge. Picturesque houses run up the hill-side some just seeming to cling on the edge. The ruined Tsarevets Citadel is imposing and must be visited. There is a small "artists area" which is colorful and is a fun area to hang out at one of the cafes. This is a cool little city that I highly recommend.

Veliko Tarnovo - the old capitol of Bulgaria. The most famous attraction here is Tsarevets - a hill, where the kings castle was built. Now there are walls and a church. The main town street also has its charming and leads to the old craft market with lovely traditional and restored houses, craft shops with lovely souvenirs.
I would say Veliko Tarnmovo is the third best tourist town in Bulgaria. Highly recommended.
Hotels - hostels, middle range, private house rooms and some 5 stars.
Dont miss to visit the near / 7km/ archaeological reserve Arbanassi, including dinner.
Veliko Tarnovo can offer 2 days lovely unforgettable tour! It is exactly in the middle of Bulgaria between Sofia and sea cost.
Enjoy!

Veliko Tarnovo (Bulgarian: Велико Търново) is a city in north central Bulgaria and the administrative centre of Veliko Tarnovo Province. Often referred to as the "City of the Tsars", Veliko Tarnovo is located on the Yantra River and is famous as the historical capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire, attracting many tourists with its unique architecture. The old city is situated on three hills, Tsarevets, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora raising amidst the meanders of the Yantra. Tsarevets housed the palaces of the Bulgarian Emperors and the Patriarchate with the Patriarchal Cathedral, as well as a number of administrative and residential edifices surrounded by thick walls. Trapezitsa was known for its many churches and as the main residence of the nobility. In the Middle Ages it was among the main European centres of culture and gave its name to the architecture of the Tarnovo Artistic School, painting of the Tarnovo Artistic School and literature. Veliko Tarnovo is an important administrative, economic, educational and cultural centre of Northern Bulgaria.
