Celeny Da Silva -Trip
What is the United Kingdom? For some, the UK is a blueblood manor home in the Cotswolds. For others, it's the international melting pot of hip-and-happening Manchester. For visitors, it's almost anything you like. Want to visit isolated castle ruins and hike through a moon-like landscape? Head to northern Scotland. Want to get literary? Stop in London's City Center to catch a performance at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre or visit Jane Austen's favorite sites in Bath. How about a trip back in time? Witness the grandeur of York's medieval cathedral, Edinburgh's perfectly preserved 1000-year-old castle, or go way, way back, to pre-historic monoliths at Stonehenge. But don't forget the natural beauty. Northern Ireland's Causeway Coast offers a ... Read more
rugged and scenic landscape, interspersed with darling villages. Hikers flock to Wales' Snowdonia National Park or England's Pennines to take part in one of the UK's favorite pastimes. No trip to the UK is complete without spending a few nights in a traditional pub drinking with the locals and trying out the local dishes which, these days, often means curry or noodles.
The UK is a bit damp and has trouble mustering up a season that looks and feels like “summer,” but that only adds to its charm. With an umbrella and some wellies, you can plan a great visit at almost any time of year. If you are looking to take advantage of the national network of walking trails or spend time at the seaside, July and August are usually the months that see the most sun, but daytime temps don’t get much above 70F (21C) so the space in your suitcase would be better used for light sweaters than shorts and bathing suits. Winter is cool but not arctic cold, so this is a great time to get some off-season deals and get a taste of local British culture from inside a warm pub. If you're headed up to Scotland, be prepared for ... Read more

Some risk
Overall safe, but in London and other big cities, there are areas to avoid after dark. If you are out alone at night, be aware that there's "high alcohol consumption and "a lot of intoxicated men stumbling around." Have your wits about you and stay aware of your surroundings and belongings. "Get a SIM card so you can have Internet access for solo travels and last-minute changes." "If you get lost or feel uncomfortable, ask a (London) cabbie -- they're super helpful and generally very pleasant about helping lost people." "Uber is another great way to get around safely - just check the license plate number." And once you are out of London, "the countryside and smaller towns are very safe, but evenings tend to be extremely quiet."

The UK has different atmospheres in different areas. "Brighton and London are probably the biggest gay communities.' but you should 'Be aware of your surroundings and who is around you.' Same sex marriage is legal in the UK and the country is generally tolerant, but you may encounter pockets of bigotry in smaller towns or around 'lad culture'

Do you remember phone booths before we all had cell phones. In UK they still use them. Some have been changed to internet hot spots. Remember Dr. Who ???????

For me, the United Kingdom means a country of great history, literary traditions, and music. It means beautiful green countryside with lakes and mountains and picturesque villages centuries old. It also has a tradition of walking in nature and pub culture which one can enjoy delicious ales and fine company. Britain is expensive, but with good planning, you can try to keep your budget down.

I've only seen London and some parts of the English countryside. I would love to come back and visit some of the other parts of the United Kingdom sometime in the future. London is still known as one of the biggiest foodie capitals of the world. Of ourse there is plenty of history here and lots of buildings to see for their beuty and historic significance. Eventhough it's not cheap it is possible to include on a Euro tour. Flights with EasyJet really help!

Before this year, i hadn't really been interested in the UK, and boy was I missing out. The people are friendly, the pubs are cozy, the countryside is lovely, and the much-maligned food is delicious and comforting. Plus, in the UK, there's a beautiful co-existence of cutting-edge culture and historical preservation, so you don't have to give up your quaint buildings and traditional customs for avante-garde art and progressive politics.

They speak English but everything still seems foreign. The difference between the internal countries, both in culture and landscape, gives you a chance for infinite experiences without leaving the island.
