Why Go

Uganda, in East Africa, is one of the continent’s most interesting and beautiful countries, deemed by Winston Churchill to be the “Pearl of Africa.” Africa’s highest mountains are to be found in the Rwenzori National Park, and the Nile River itself begins in Uganda. Rare fauna like the endangered mountain gorilla populate the land, which itself is stunningly beautiful. Kampala, the capital, is a busy (and relatively friendly) African city. Years of brutal tyranny under Idi Amin have not dampened the people’s spirit, although there has been controversy and some violence recently around gay rights, including laws introduced in Parliament which make being gay a crime and the murder of a prominent activist in early 2011.

Uganda is a developing country home to the silver back gorillas and national parks filled with wildlife. Rarely publicized unlike its neighboring counties, Uganda is a great place to do a safari. The roads need a lot of work as many are still unpaved and makes it harder to get around, so hire a tour guide if possible. There is also still a lot of corruption within the system so best to travel here through a tour company.

One thing unique about Uganda and different from it’s neighboring countrie is that tourism in Uganda is built on the concept of ecotourism and the main focus is placed on sustainable use of the natural and cultural attractions which are the foundation of Uganda’s tourism, as well as empowering the local communities to benefit from tourism.
Uganda has ten national parks offering a diversity of attractions and activities. This makes the country a one stop destination for all your adventure expectations. The national parks are rich in flora and fauna with some endemic species of birds, wild animals, butterflies, aquatic life and vegetation.

Queen Elizabeth is a lovely place with lots of animals. The Kazinga channel launch cruise is especially breath-taking. We did a tour with African Secrets Limited a local tour operator before heading to Bwindi impenetrable national park the home of the mountain gorillas

Perhaps I shouldn't be letting you in on this secret, but Uganda is incredible. Unlike Kenya and Tanzania, which are well known to travelers, Uganda seems to have gone unnoticed which I find baffling. Any place where you can climb a mountain, raft the Nile, and get charged by a silverback gorilla- all in the span of about three or four days is seriously hard to top in my book.
