When prices are this low, you can't ask for a lot, and that's why I really like the Ubud Inn - you get a lot for what you pay for. To be fair, the standard rooms are very basic - no frill bedding, an acceptable bathroom and a small TV. However, the grounds are stunningly beautiful, draped in tropical gardens and boasting a lovely pool area. In terms of exploring Ubud, the location can't be beat. It is just steps away from the Monkey Forest Sanctuary, and in the heart of Ubud town. If you are looking for a posh retreat, this might not be for you. But if you just need a place to lay your head while you're off exploring temples, monkeys, yoga studios and vegan restaurants, the combination of price and pleasure here at the Ubud Inn cannot be beat.

If you're traveling on a budget, the price of the Ubud Inn is a great deal. Also, the gardens are lovely, and the location is ideal for exploring downtown Ubud and the Monkey Forest. On the other hand, I hated the rooms. The bedding was outdated and uncomfortable, the bathrooms were tiny, and there were few amenities. One other interesting feature - that I both loved and hated at the same time - is that the staff have a pet flying fox (a giant form of bat) tied up to a tree. The part that was cool was being able to see this creature up close, but overall - it seemed cruel and tragic. The restaurant is lovely and sits between a lotus pond and Ubud's main tourist street. In short, this is a great option if you are pinching pennies, but I'd generally prefer a more comfortable place to lay my head at night. And I think the flying fox agrees.

I booked the cheapest room available at the Ubud Inn, which was $15 a night. I'm not sure if the more expensive rooms are nicer, but my room was extremely basic with a double bed, very worn comforter, ceiling fan, and incredibly decrepit bathroom.

The inn itself is gorgeous, a lot of plants and flowers, beautiful swimming pool, and nice area for breakfast. Breakfast itself (included in the price of the room, and it was decent: coffee/tea, fruit plate, and choice of toast or banana pancake.

The staff were pushy at times. I was approached numerous times to keep tabs on where I was going (do you need transport? tours?) and asked if I wanted a massage at the spa, all of which led me to find another hotel during my week long stay in Ubud.
