Description
The concept for The Crab Shack began in 1990. Prior to that it was just a sleepy little fishing camp with a boat hoist, boat storage, live bait sales and a bar in the ship

What is there not to do, or see, or eat here?!

We were passing through the area and were looking for a place to grab dinner. This was suggested by a few friends and I'm glad we went! I mean, it's a little kitschy, a little touristy, but it's delicious and fun and was a great break to stretch our legs and eat good fresh seafood.

Me and hubby both had the LowCountry Boil, which was peel and eat shrimp and crab with sides. The crab had a different seasoning on it than I'm used to in the midwest, but it was delicious, and the shrimp were boiled to perfection. There's no crazy hoity toity rules here. The tables have a trashcan with a hole in the middle to just through your shells and what nots into. And there's a roll of papertowels for you to use to your liking.

Most of it is outdoors, or in a screened in indoor section right on the bay. So the views are nice. It also has a boat dock if you need one. The alcohol selection was nice as well. We both had summery mixed drinks that were just as good and paired well with the food and atmosphere. There are a few cats roaming around, but they don't pay you any mind.

You can also by gator bait from the waitress or hostess and attach it to a fishing line to go feed the tiny gators. They're adorable and it was so worth the couple of bucks to do it! On the right side of the building there's a giftshop as you would expect with themed items and then there's also a room full of different exotic birds that they have rescued! It's a nice little island spot, not fancy, just laid back with good food, good drinks, good people, and good views.

An absolute MUST if you like seafood - their saying is "where the elite eat in their bare feet" and it's true. Low Country Boil is their specialty, but their crab is always fresh and delicious. Plenty for kids to do; a bird sanctuary and feeding the alligators.

Good food and shell fish in a tropical atmosphere. Dine on the water or inside. See the alligators and tropical birds. Best atmosphere is in the evening when you can view the lighted tree canopy. Reservations advised.

Wife and I got the sampler and it was delicious. There was a ton of food and it came out extremely quickly which was nice because it took us a while to eat everything. One thing I would recommend though is that you eat inside because there are flies everywhere once your food comes out.

Great fun

Great fun! The sampler platter is great..order for 1 less (platter for 2 good for 3)..Crab excellent, Shrimp in season (June to January) sweet as sugar. Baby clams wonderful and best of all BRUNSWICK STEW! Prefer sitting outdoors by the water. Fans in summer, heaters in winter.

The atmosphere is best for a crowd or dining with kids - you can feed the alligators or look at the birds in the gift shop to keep the little ones from getting restless.

You can't come to Tybee without eating at The Crab Shack. Everytime we've visited, we eat here. Our son and daughter-in-law to-be had two suppers in a row at The Crab Shack. Their first time; couldn't get enough of it!!!!

The crab shack is singular Georgia experience. Set on the wetlands, the atmosphere is pure bayou with peach basket light fixtures, holes in the table so you can toss crab, lobster and crawfish remains and keep right on eating. Get the Low Country Boil and watch out for the palmetto bugs.

Now, if you don't ind standing in line an hour just to put your name in (not unlike Paula Deen's restaurant in savannah) then the Crab Shack can be fun. These lines are usually only on holidays and June, July and August. Children love to feed the 78 sleepy alligators but the tropical birds are my favorite. They even talk to you. Pretty good gift shop but you can only have so many things...... I do like their t-shirts. Great photo op spot with the 12 ft alligator. I like to go in the off season for the buckets of oysters. The seafood is not so precooked as it is when they are soooo busy.

If you make it to Savannah and you should - so much to do there be sure to go the this restaurant. Nothing fancy but the food is great and you will be able to feed the gators. Great place for kids!

This is the one and only "Crab Shack". Always crowded so you know the food is good. Large restaurant on the water and offers an "island" atmosphere you will be talking about for a long time. Live alligator pool is a big attraction for folks- food available to feed them. Also large, colorful, parrots in gift shop should you want to stop by & talk to them. The Tiki Huts (inside & outside) are available for that special, cold drink with the little umbrella. My favorites are the low-country boil & large platter of steamed shell fish.

Great seafood, come in your shorts and flip flops. See the alligators and feed them!

This has great ambiance, but the food is mediocre. You can purchase a small pack of pet food and then feed the alligators -- that is wonderful. Since you paid for the pet food, you can then leave with a clear conscience without buying any people food.

This is a neat place for seafood. Great location in that you eat outside on a deck under the live oak trees looking at the water. The seafood platter is huge and you really need to be hungry to eat it all. My brother told me he ate for 3 days off his seafood platter after taking it back to the condo.

The Crab Shack is located off of a little side road in Tybee Island and takes about 30 minutes to drive from Savannah. The drive is completely worth it though. I would highly recommend ordering the seafood platter, where you can feast on buttery corn, crawfish, crab legs, clams, sausage, and shrimp. It tastes amazing! Oh yeah, the Crab Shack also features a random alligator farm.
