The largest town on the western side of the Navajo Reservation, it is also a gateway to the Hopi reservation. A few nice trading posts and a new Navajo Cultural museum liven things up. Good base for exploring the reservations or stop en-route to the Grand Canyon or Lake Powell.

Summer is high season in the Grand Canyon, and many people opt to stay in nearby Flagstaff, causing the town to become more crowded during these pleasantly warm months. For the best deals, wait until winter to visit: despite cooler temperatures (and snow in Flagstaff) you’ll score bargains on your hotel; but keep in mind that the Grand Canyon’s North Rim, along with much of the park, closes down after the first snow.

Res towns are always a little sad. Stray dogs everywhere, the occasional drunk, this one is extra sad because its teeming with fast food. We always stop here to go to Denny's while passing through that part of the state but usually attempt to catch at least 2 dogs each time..
