The Hazelton is aight. It's a five star located in one of Toronto's poshest, most expensive neighbourhoods (Yorkiville) so it has some pretty high expectations to meet. And it doesn't meet them. Sure, the staff is friendly, rooms are clean and amenities are good. But it did not leave me thinking, "WOW!" It costs almost $500/night to stay here so I expected the rooms to be gorgeous, decorated with the finest taste. Unfortunately, the decor was nothing special.... The rooms were nothing special. They were the kind of rooms you could find in a much cheaper four star. That said, the bathrooms were nice. This hotel definitely gets points for its incredible amenities like the salt water lap pool, restaurants, bars and fitness centres. If you're staying here for a few days you might want to take advantage of their babysitting, dry cleaning and laundry services!

It's in Toronto's poshest postal code but The Hazelton Hotel is refreshingly unpretentious. Yes, it's floor to ceiling ultra-modern design but the friendly staff make you feel like you belong and they do it with smiles on their faces.
As soon as you walk into the hotel, you'll notice a very distinct smell. At first I thought it was citrus but when I visited the spa, I found out from staff there it's actually eucalyptus - the spa offers a eucalyptus steam room and the smell was so popular with clients, they decided to sell it and use it throughout the hotel.
Even the standard room bled luxury - the bathroom is covered in dark marble and the bath is one you'd want to spend a lot of time in. Big closets and a comfy bed are other great features of the room.
Another neat feature is the screening room - it's a mini movie theatre full of leather couches that you can rent out for anything from movie screenings to a family slideshow.

As Toronto's ONLY 5 star hotel, The Hazelton does EVERYTHING with class and refinement. I was impressed, almost to the point of being uncomfortable, and understand why it seems that only the most important and wealthy of VIP travelers stay at this exclusive place.

The front lobby is stunningly decorated, with every piece of high-quality furniture arranged at perfect right angles, beautiful and expensive looking art pieces throughout, and a general sense of swankiness, refined taste, and wealth.

The rooms are simply amazing - large (each have at least one sitting area), beautifully dressed and decorated, surgically clean, and filled with top quality TV's and radios (Tivoli's!). The bathrooms, seemingly carved out of one giant block of dark green marble, are even more impressive!

Finally, there is the famous One Restaurant, headed by Toronto celebrity chef Mark McEwan. They have one of the top patios in the city (great for people watching, though you will spend a pretty penny to do so) and also one of the best Eggs Benedict in the city.

The Hazelton Hotel is one of the only 5-star hotels in Toronto and is swanky and upscale in a manner that I'm frankly not that comfortable with. I felt under-dressed from the moment I walked in, and unless you have the money to walk the walk, I would not recommend booking a stay here. That having been said, it is an objectively gorgeous hotel, and every detail is meticulously and sumptuously designed. And it's not boring, which is saying something for an upscale hotel. The hallways have contrasting patterns on the walls and carpets - black and white flowers vs. brown and beige squares, and there's beautiful art everywhere you look. It's like being in your wealthy boho friend's perfect apartment. The rooms are large and comfortable, but the washrooms are the real stunner, done entirely in hunter green marble. There's a ton of closet space and the hotel offers fancy extras, such as the obligatory saltwater pool, spa, steam room and screening room - for when your celebrity friends come to town. Situated right in the heart of Yorkville, the Hazelton Hotel is also renowned for its restaurant, One, which has celebrity chef Marc McGewan as its head.
