This hostel is very lively and has a super cool vibe. They organize pub crawls and fun events for backpackers, so it's a great spot to meet people. The staff are super friendly and offer great advice about the city. The rooms are clean, and surprisingly so are the shared bathrooms. With free breakfast, wifi and city tours, you can't ask for a better hostel in Toronto.

Your typical backpacker's hostel. It's kind of chaotic because people are coming and going all the time. But the rooms are quiet and clean. It can also get crowded during the high season. There's a bar, a breakfast option in the morning, and a full sized kitchen available for guests to use during open hours. It's close to the Lakeshore and Eaton Centre, as well as subways and streetcars if you want to get further away from the downtown core. Best suited for the extreme budget traveller.

I'm very picky with my hostels, having stayed at many on various backpacking trips on different continents. Coming to a hostel in my own city, I had reservations - I've heard not so great things about this type of accommodation in North America. As I begrudgingly walked into this Hostelling International, I was pleasantly surprised. The reception area is warm, brightly painted with bicycles to rent, a chalkboard of all the events going on in the city for the week and very friendly staff. The common area is nice and comfortable and always seems to be busy. Up to the dorm rooms and you get your usual bunk bed fare and not much room for anything else. The private rooms are also pretty tiny but offer a more reasonable personal space and more character than nearby budget hotels. There's also a large kitchen hostel goers can use and a cute tavern style bar (open to the public as well) that often hosts live music shows. It's also where you can get your free breakfast. Great location too - near the Distillery district and not far from Yonge Street and all the gay clubs you could ever want. The downside is it's quite far from Queen West so if that's where you want to hang out, better to stay closer.

After having backpacked around the world, I was excited to see what Toronto has to offer in terms of a budget hostel, and HI international did not disappoint. Immediately when going to the front desk I was approached by another guest and told it was a great place to stay, relieving any worries one might have about making new friends at this hostel if traveling alone.

Hostelling International is a hostel chain around the world that can often be relied upon for being clean and organized, but along with these standards for HI, I was surprised by the character this hostel had, as I’ve found other HIs to be on the plain side. The common room had lots of people hanging out and comfortable couches, there was an underground bar and restaurant that served complimentary hot breakfast, and featured entertainment such as concerts and comedy nights. The staff I talked to was friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were clean, though a little narrow, but what you would expect from a budget hostel.

Buenos Aires
