They've recently renovated complete with a name change. Now called the Shibuya Hotel En, I LOVED this place on all accounts except one. It's at the demarkation line between normal Shibuya and the start of what can be a quite shady, questionable area otherwise known as 'Love Hotel Hill' which often serves as a front for human trafficking (you have to be a Tokyo local to know that.)

If you can get past that part of it, the location is great- super close to the station, the night life that makes up Shibuya and a fantastic selection of restaurants including Japan authentic 'ramen.'

The hotel is designed with a 'modern Japan' motif and each floor of guest rooms follows after a different Japan centric genre among them: anime, Fuji, Kyoto, the four seasons and Noh theater. I'm not an anime fan but the anime floor was super fun while the Mt. Fuji was my favorite.

The rooms perfectly reflect the urban Japan minimalist atmosphere. They have lots of non-Japanese guests and the staff go out of their way to be helpful. They've even got a selection of books in the lobby and rooms that cater to foreign guests.

The lobby was a little overpowering with the black, red and white but, once you get up to the rooms, it's easy to forget that. They also have a lounge/restaurant with a great looking menu- again, in romaji (English alphabet) to make for easy reading.

Next time I have friends or family come to Japan, I may very well put them up here.

Right at the entrance of Shibuya’s famed Club Street and Love Hotel Hill lies the Shibuya City Hotel, which seems oddly out of place for the area. In an area well known for its thriving night live and romantic love hotels where couples go for privacy the Hotel certainly stands out.

This particular hotel is aimed at business travels and carries only basic amenities such as free Wi-Fi in all the rooms. Basically it’s just a quiet clean place that provides a room to keep your luggage and a bed to sleep in. There are quite a few bars and restaurants to sample both the local cuisine and more western dishes. Most notably there’s a reasonably priced pizza and pasta restaurant next door that is equally good for a quiet drink or a romantic date.

The staff are polite and professional, but at the same time not terribly enthusiastic and while I wouldn’t actually go as far to say that it’s a bad place there are several other hotels within walking distance and in the same price range that offer far more features. That said while visitors could certainly do better as far accommodations go they could certainly also do worse.

Shibuya City Hotel is just a normal business hotel, but it's in a good area. It's easy to find from Shibuya station because it sits right at the base of Dougenzaka, or love hotel hill. If you sit in the bar/restaurant at night you can watch couples walking up the little hill on their way to pick out a love hotel. How romantic. It's not a seedy hotel, though, and it's right next to rock clubs, galleries, museums, department stores, movie theaters, book stores, and restaurants. It's surprisingly quiet-- even on a Friday or Saturday night--in the very standard looking rooms. It doesn't come with breakfast, but the salad bar, toast, and coffee breakfast is cheap in the little restaurant attached to the hotel. Also, if you get up early enough, you can watch couples (often in their goin' out clothes) walking back to the station. Awww, isn't love beautiful?

If you need a business hotel in Shibuya, Shibuya City Hotel would be great for you. They have clean rooms and a clean restaurant. They have a salad bar and coffee. They gave us free refills on coffee, which no one does in Tokyo. On the top floor of this hotel there's a room with two queens pushed together and a couch that folds out. You could get a lot of people in there.
