The walk from Gakugedaigaku station is about 12 minutes and can feel a bit long- especially towards the last half. The area is quite kitschy and has a number of shops and restaurants along the way making for a great leisurely stroll.

The hotel itself is quite chic and classy. Definitely has an urbanite vibe. The staff are friendly and speak English well enough for the basics. It's located next to a main road but, the actual entrance is a bit hidden and set back from the street depending which direction you come from. Easy to miss it if you're not careful- I ended up walking round the back side to the service entrance by mistake my first time there.

Claska is located near Gakugei Daigaku Station or a short bus rider from more central Meguro Station. The area around Gakugei Daigaku seems pretty serene and peaceful at first as there is often ambient music playing in the background and even a few small, but well maintained parks on the way, but this kind of falls apart after a couple of blocks. The way to the hotel is a series of narrow streets and cars whiz by a little too close for comfort. After a couple of blocks it basically becomes a residential area meaning hardly any shops or restaurants.
The actual hotel itself is quite nice. There are a few different styles of spacious rooms to choose from and both the lobby interior and the room design are pleasant and artistic especially if you like that retro mod look. The other big problem with this hotel is that it only has a mere 20 rooms meaning reservations need to be made in advance and even then it’s often full.
Over all it’s still a nice place, but the location and the lack of rooms leaves something to be desired.

First off, it should be said about the Claska hotel that it has a dog grooming salon next to the bar called Dog Man. I love this hotel. They had me at, "There's a dog grooming salon next to the bar called Dog Man." They also have sweet bikes to borrow. Possibly, more important in describing the identity of this small boutique hotel, is that each hotel room was designed by a different designer or design firm. Because the hotel's concept is so unusual, and because there's also exhibition space and a design shop on the second and third floors of the hotel, it gets written up in Japanese design magazines a lot. So you need to make a reservation possibly a month in advance. I think it's worth it, though. The rooms all have unique features, some with large terraces and views of Tokyo. The rooms even start off reasonably priced. The lounge has a cool vibe with dark lighting and in the evenings sometimes a D.J. The draw back for some is the hotel is about a 10-15 min. walk to Meguro or Gakugeidai stations. Even if you can't stay here, the Claska hotel is worth checking out. In the shop I bought their little bilingual book "Tokyo by Tokyo" in which they asked Tokyo creatives to name three of their favorite places in the city. One of mine is the Claska.

This is a super fashionable hotel. It's not like other Japanese hotels, that have a corporate, sterile feeling. In this one it's obvious the designers have made each room with its own unique design. Check out the web-site to choose a room. They have unusual western and modern Japanese style rooms. I loved this hotel.
