Built up high on the Cornish coastline. Tintagel castle has association with king Arthur and was once an important stronghold. Tintagel is an incredible site with plenty to do with the family from exploring the beaches along the coastline, Merlins cave and taking in the breathtaking views from up high on the clifftop.
Tintagel castle is another one of English heritages great sites. There is paid parking available at a number of different car parks. There is a ten minute walk from the entrance down to the cafe, shop and beach area, however there is a paid for land rover service that will take you up and down.
Be prepared for a lot of walking and climbing up and down steep steps as it is a bit of an adventure to make it up to the castle area and to see the iconic statue at the top of the cliffs.

What can we say? The traditional place where King Arthur and his knights of the round table were. It is a bit of a climb to the top (via stairs and a clear walking path) and you are rewarded with some of the most stunning views in the UK, and you can walk through the bits of an old castle. Not to be missed!

A beautiful cliff top castle, this is one of my favourite spots, as the entire scenery is just stunning. Supposedly the birth place of King Arthur! So a bit of history and mystery there too!

The best way to visit the castle is to drive to the church and then walk down to it. The parking in the village is a complete rip off. Let me know if you are going as the manager is a good friend.

Traditionally known as the birthplace of King Arthur, Tintagel Castle is worth the trouble it takes to get there. (Tintagel is especially challenging to reach if you are traveling on public transportation.) Situated high on the Cornwall coast, the current ruins date from around the middle of the 13th century. However, that was constructed on top of a much older fortress. The views afforded by your climb up are breathtaking. Be careful on a windy day -- there aren't many safety barriers, and the gusts can be quite powerful.
