12th century remnants are well preserved. You can touch it, you can see it, you can even taste it! Stroll along and feel like a knight!

One of the features of Old Tallinn that I found so appealing and charming were the old Fortress Walls. You can see them encompassing parts of the old town and many of the towers you can climb up to see better!

With 1.9 km of its original city wall still standing, Tallinn boasts one of Europe’s best preserved medieval fortifications together with 20 defensive towers. A large part of what gives Old Town its fairy tale charm is the system of walls and towers that surrounds it. Work on the town's defenses first began in 1265, but the current outline of the wall dates to the 14th century. The best place to see the wall from the outside is the Patkuli viewing platform on Toompea Hill. It's also possible to get a look at the wall from the inside - visitors can climb up and imagine what it felt like to guard the town against would-be invaders, but the wall is even more popular for its picturesque view of the red-tiled roofs of the Old Town.

Some of the walls are accesable to the public. Recently some we're renovated so you can walk around and go from one tower to the other. Advisable.

Прекрасно сохранившиеся фрагменты старой городской стены по-настоящему заставляют погрузиться в Средневековье! А если еще попытаться выговорить по-эстонски названия хотя бы нескольких башен - и вовсе голова идет кругом!
