Get here early. As parking fills up fast. Hiking down hill to Vikingsholm is a snap. Bring a lunch and picnic with the ducks and wildlife. Take a tour of the house. Very interesting history. And breath taking view . Also so much to see and hiking around. There are quite many animals here that call this place home. Save your strength for the hike back up to your cars.. it's all up hill but if you pace yourself and take small rest you'll be fine. Very worth the day trip. Enjoy!

If you're up for a bit of a hike that's a little challenging, then Vikingsholm is a must. Wear your good walking shoes and possibly your bathing suit under your clothes as there is a lovely little beach down at the bottom right on Lake Tahoe. The preserved house is very pretty and is made with old construction that architecture buffs will find interesting. Tours end at 4pm and the hike up can get dicey if it's warm out, so go at opening to make it more enjoyable and don't forget to bring water.

Terrific walk down to this 1920s mansion. This was how the 1% lived back then, with Emerald Bay essentially the estate's private lake, complete with a great beach and a stone teahouse on Fannette Island.

Historic Lodge on the West Shore. Four rating since the hike is steep! Or arrive by boat.

A visit to Vikingsholm is a must for anyone with a Scandinavian background. It was built by a woman who fell in love with Scandinavian architecture and furniture. When she couldn't buy pieces in Europe, she hired artisans to replicate what she had seen. Be sure to take the home tour.

The walk to the castle from the parking area to the bottom of the hill at the end of Emerald Bay provides an opportunity to observe many varieties of mountain wild flowers along the way.

Park at the top and hike your way to the Vikingsholm Castle. The hike is a nice walk on a paved road/rocky road. Once you get down, enjoy the beautiful beach in a remote cove of Lake Tahoe. You can walk around the castle grounds and read up on some history - this is one of our favorite places to visit.

A rare and deeply historic example of Scandinavian architecture in the western hemisphere. Majestically located among the towering cedars and pines. Nearby water falls provides additional scenic bonuses.

Right off of Hwy 89 is Vikingsholm Castle built in 1929. Remarkable architectural design of Scandinavian home. Old movie stars came to here to visit Tahoe. Very enjoyable tour. Adults $10, ages 7 & up $8. Parking $10. 1/2 mile walk down the road to the castle. Best done in the morning!

Great place to visit and experience a glimpse back in time. Easy downhill walk but all uphill back, so plan accordingly. Beautiful views of Emerald Bay from the parking lot.
