With its six pointed arches that resemble shark fins, Sydney's Opera House is one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. Although you'll find it in the harbor of the Australian capital, the ... Read more
iconic modern structure was built by a Danish architect. The building hosts more than 1,500 performances annually and all types of performing arts are represented here. Visitors don't have to come for a show -- you can tour the Opera House or enjoy a meal and the stellar harbor views from the cafe. For obvious reasons, the Opera House is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I’ve been here so many times. Also having spent my new years here I’d be like —— Wow, what a magnificent place. It looks just amazing from the outside, dominating the landscape when you look at it from afar but wow, getting up close and personal and touching it was something else. Lots of photo opportunities in and around the Opera House and the view of the harbour and the Harbour Bridge from the grounds of the Opera House are magnificent and not to be missed.

Going on a tour inside the building then took the whole experience to another level altogether. This is a fully functional performance centre and we were lucky to be able to see all of the performance spaces during the tour. Do yourself a favour, go visit and take a tour. I'm not stopping there as I have tickets to an actual performance in the Opera House can't wait for that. This is a must do when you are in Sydney!

I can’t get over the feeling walking solo along the boardwalk in Sydney’s Opera house! The lively aboriginal show being performed in the background, the wonderful aromas of restaurants surrounding me, the glorious views and catching a glimpse of the native Kookaburra birds found only in Australia! Sydney’s trendy and hip! I shall be back

Stunning architecture and beautiful to admire up close. You have to pay an admission to actually go inside the opera house but I didn't find it worth going into, just admiring it from the outside was enough.

Didn't have time to go inside, but I feel like the outside looks better at a certain distance. I wanted to chill by the harbour at the bar area by the opera house, but it was so busy I couldn't be bothered. It was also a hot day and made even hotter by the amount of people gathered in the area.

It’s one of those places you have to go to while on Sydney. The tour was about an hour and I really enjoyed walking round and learning about this famous landmark! A must see while in Sydney

Sydney’s iconic opera house is well worth a visit. If you do the tour, be sure to ask why the windows are inclined

Lived in Sydney for 14 years and never been inside the opera house. Always really expensive for the tour. Outside is nice

Impressive architecture, stunning design, and great photo ops on every angle. Wood interior with a concrete shell and creamy-colored tiles covering all the structures. The shells are like puzzle pieces that form a sphere.
We took the guided tour for a behind the scenes walk through. It was disappointing. Most of the time the tour guide was repeating that photos were not permitted. Even when we went into the main concert auditorium, she stated that photos were not permitted. Fortunately for us, another group that was in there already was taking pictures like crazy so we did the same. She then proceeded to say that photos were not permitted while cleaning staff was present.
I should add though that being inside the concert hall was special. If for nothing else, the tour was worth that.
The ticket we got for the tour was part of a 5 activities package that we bought through itours. See my itoursntix review for more info. The regular price for the tour is $37AUD (purchase online for 10% off). If you're planning to do the tour, try to book it in advance as they do sell out. - November 2017

A Sydney icon that everyone who visits must see. The great thing about the Opera House is that though it's a cliche, it doesn't feel like a normal tourist trap (Times Square, Amsterdam Canals). This makes vising the place much more enjoyable and authentic.

The best part of Sydney is our opera house. A beautiful opera house looking out on the harbor. A must see.

This is the best known landmark in Sydney. There's live music surrounding the premise, tons of food options, majestic views of the harbor and a number one tourist spot!!

The most photographed building in the southern hemisphere. Everyone has seen it and it represents Sydney. Walk up to the building and walk inside, take a tour or a performance. Also make sure you take pictures at night and different times during the day - it changes.

You never realize how cool it is being at the opera house until you are there. One of the coolest experiences and I'm defiantly glad that I got to go.
