Description
Best known to most Australians as the drug and red light capital of Australia, the 'Cross' is a sleazy collection of strip clubs, adult bookshops, and tacky nightclubs. Over the years many attempts ... Read more
have been made to transform the area into something more respectable: small trendy cafes, restaurants, and shops have sprung up on the fringes, but the area still attracts a different type of visitor. Potts Point is perhaps the most desirable location, at the lower end of the Cross. It is here you will find the glamorous townhouses, hotels, bars, and restaurants.

Even though it is popular for the nightlife, when the sun shines and it gets a little brighter, Kings Cross becomes quite nice place, especially for it close to few attractive places like The Domain, Royal Botanical Garden, and Woolloomooloo Bay.

Upon my arrival for the first time in Sydney, I was under the impression Kings Cross would be the perfect spot to be in for a week in town. Don't get me wrong, it is. It's centrally located to many of Sydney's main attractions. But it's also sleazy, full of cheap nightclubs and questionable eateries. It's great if you want to save a buck on your stay in Sydney, as it's backpackers central, plenty of hostels to choose from. Otherwise, I wouldn't come stay or hangout in Kings Cross again, unless it's in Potts Point, where the townhouses and nicer establishments are.

Ah, Kings Cross. Incredibly dodgy and completely unrepresentative of the rest of Sydney as a whole, this collection of backpacker hostels, bars, strip clubs, brothels and kebab shops is nonetheless what many people end up associating -- wrongly -- with the city of Sydney. Full on a Friday night with aggressive meatheads, skeezy chicks, and tourists, it's nonetheless the place to go for a late night out in Sydney, after more respectable establishments have closed. Watch out for drunk bogans.

Ah, the famous Kings Cross. I visited because I had heard tales of its eclectic ambience, cheap eats, and, shall we say interesting people....but I spent one hour here and caught the next train back to the CBD. After three days of seeing the delightful harborside charms of Sydney, the waterfront restaurants, the sun-soaked promenades, and even the quaint little suburbs, I was uncomfortable in a community so starkly different from it all. It's eclectic, that's for sure, crawling with beggars, homeless people, and other colorful characters. Strip clubs, sexy shops, and flashing neon signs over tiny restaurant walkups line the dirty sidewalks, and the atmosphere is party, drugs, and rock n' roll. This is not a bad thing for those who are inclined to this lifestyle, but I, personally, preferred the rest of Sydney.

I quite like Kings Cross and stayed there when I was in Sydney. It's kind of the red light area of Sydney, but it has a cool vibe and fun nightlife.

i love kings cross.
best place to go out on the town.
one time we got kidnapped by a strip club called the love machine.
going around cruising the streets, dancing in the clubs, drinking in the bars, eating from the built in vendor they have amazing food.
the ice creamery there is something ive always wanted to go to.
dont go there alone however it can be a very dangerous place at night, undebelly is pretty spot on when it comes to the cross.
always go in groups with at least 1 boy to every 2 girls =P
then youll all be fine,

u have to go though its amazing!

great place if you know how to look after yourself, and i mean really look after yourself. Greatest nite life ever but once again this place is dangerous all round. It was a much better place back in the days when it had the wax museum.

Kings Cross has come a long way since I arrived in Sydney in 1996 but still maintains a bit of grit. Good for late night shenanigans.

I love the Cross always have, it was the hub of live shows in the 60's, and it is no where near as bad as ppl try to make out ... my dream place to live right in amongst it ALL

Not as dodgy as people make it out to be. Lots of fun clubs, just avoid the strip bars and anyone who looks a bit sketchy.
