Stockholm Holidays

Stockholm is as Scandinavian as they come, but also one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the chilly region. Almost a quarter of Sweden's residents live in the bustling international city, and its burgeoning fashion business now rivals Paris, New York and London. Impeccably clean, the city is one of the most green in the world, and its system of ... Read more
rivers and islands give it the moniker Venice of the North. Take a walk back in time to the 15th century, mostly centered in the city’s historic old town district of Gamla Stan, where major historic attractions such as the Riksdag (Swedish parliament) and the Kungliga Slottet (Royal Palace), reside. The city's over 100 museums cover everything from Nordic life to the Nobel Prize. Stockholm is an expensive city and hotels are priced accordingly, but with hostels on a boat and Boeing 747, lodging can be inventive and affordable. A popular vacation for Swedes and visitors alike is the Stockholm archipelago, an island chain of almost 25,000 islets stretching 60 kilometers east of Stockholm. During summer, you can enjoy 11pm sunsets on deck of a boat cruise through the scenic region.

bucket list, the easy answer for when to go to Stockholm is June through August, when the temperatures are the most pleasant, with a range of 65-72F (18-22C). You should expect to trade degrees for dollars, though, as high-season rates can get expensive, but during this part of the year you do get more bang for your buck -- parties and activities often carry on well into the night because daylight can last a full 24 hours.

Barcelona

It is a beautiful city, with lots of art and things to do. However, I feel it is a little overrated.

Stockholm is a safe and beautiful city! The Christmas decorations are fantastic and the Swedish meatballs are delicious, but you can find all types of food in this International city.

Branding itself as the Capital of Scandinavia, Stockholm is a hip city packed with museums, historic buildings, and fine restaurants. Not as expensive as it once was, the city can be friendly to all budgets with careful planning. Public transportation rocks and there are plenty of cheap eats around the city. With the Stockholm card, entry to most museums is included and so is public transport.

Stockholm is filled with rich food and interesting culture. From the Vasamuseet to the kanelbulle (amazing cinnamon buns), you're sure to have a memorable time in Stockholm. Soak up Stockholm over a relaxing fika (coffee with cake, a cinnamon bun or cardamon flavored roll) and steep yourself in years of Swedish traditions.

Sweden's fascinating capital as well as the biggest city in the country. Stockholm is divided in a bunch of boroughs (Norrmalm, Gamla Stan, Södermalm, Östermalm, Djurgården etc.) and each offers a diverse piece of the city in its own characteristic way. There's plenty to see and do among the many shops, restaurants, parks museums and food markets.

Together with Barcelona and Trondheim, Stockholm is one of my favorite cities. Stockholm has everything I want in a city from nature, water to food and entertainment.

Beautiful city, even when covered in inches of ice! It has that Scandinavian look too, with the brightly colored houses (like you see in Gamla Stan). I loved the layout of small islands interlaced together.

Just arrived! Such a beautiful and picturesque city! In midsummer the sun up here never really sets! It's a lovely twilight all night long! The city is very walkable and set up some central ares with a concentration of shops and restaurants. They have all the best shops all set up with eye attracting displays.

The capital and one of the most beautiful cities in Sweden. Great shopping, beautiful old buildings and some great clubs as well. It is quiet expensive though!
