Stari Grad

Weather

If you’re dreaming about a summer spent dipping your toes in the Adriatic, unfortunately you’re not alone. Summer, specifically July and August, is peak tourist season on the coast and islands of Croatia, so ... Read more
though you’ll likely enjoy the nice weather, you’ll have to endure exorbitant hotel rates and crowds, crowds, crowds. Summer is better spent inland at cities like Zagreb, where you’ll encounter an entirely different story: fewer tourists, more bargains, and cooler temperatures. The coast is much more pleasant in late spring and early fall when air and water temperatures are still warm, but places are cheaper and less crowded. Winter is also not bad along the coast, though it gets cold and snowy inland.

Washington, D.C.

While most visitors head to Hvar’s main city of Hvar Town, heading east to the lesser visited Stari Grad is the best way to experience this centuries-old island. Stari Grad is actually one of the oldest towns in all of Europe, established by the Greeks as a fishing and trade port. Today you can amble the ancient city street, hike the rolling mountains and indulge in delicious seafood.

This historically rich, peaceful and contemplative little island town was the favourite of our island-hopping tour. Not as many tourists come here & you won't find a string of clubs along the docks. Soak up the sunset along the harbour with a gin & tonic and enjoy the quiet beauty.
