Blood, is a cathedral you can see miles away. It sits on the water, and you can enjoy a river tour that passes it a long the route. The building is beautiful for those of you that like to take photographs because of the bright colors used on the domes and elegant designs. The domes are shades of blue, gold and yellow which pop out because of the surrounding water and sky.

The exterior of the building is impressive, and it resembles a miniature place. However, I would mostly say that is looks splendid from outside given that is just on the river bank and being tall it stands out from far.

Stunning and spectacular. Great exterior and interior. The outside will overwhelm you and the inside will leave you speechless as everything looks like paintings but in fact it is all mosaics. Highly recommend you put on your list when visitng Saint Petersburg.

Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is one of the main attractions to see in St. Petersburg. It was built in 1883 during the reign of Alexander III. The church was dedicated to be a memorial to his father, Alexander II.

This gorgeous church (both outside and in) was under renovation for several years in the 90s. It was worth the wait.

Easily one of the most recognizable buildings in St. Petersburg, this church delivers in a big way. Walk around the grounds to take its sheer scale and then head inside for a visual overload. The exterior is modeled after St. Basil’s in Moscow and inside every surface is covered in bight bold frescos and tile mosaics. It is stunning.

One of the most important and most iconic landmarks to visit in st Petersburg. The city's other structures architecture is predominantly Baroque and Neoclassical, but the Savior on Blood marks back to medieval Russian architecture in the spirit of romantic nationalism. It resembles the St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. The church has over 7500 meters of mosaics in the interior, many of them gold leafed. You can make 300 rubles to go inside and its definitely worth it to take a peak inside.

Incredibly ornate and beautiful tile mosaics and a fascinating history. Take some time to put the past of this amazing monument into context to fully appreciate it.

The Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood is perhaps the most beautiful church I've seen in my entire life. And I'm not sure this is necessarily a compliment. One can't wander through this gold-plated place without pitying the people of the age whose money was taken to be squandered on the tsar's extravagant wants. Still, we benefit from the glory, as it's a wonder to wander through.

Church that appears very similar to St Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. It was built on the site of the assassination of Tsar Alexander II.

The Church of the Spilled Blood in St. Petersburg, Russia. Reformist Russian Czar, Alexander II, who liberated the serfs (antagonizing the landed gentry in the process) was murdered on this spot by the revolutionary group, The People's Will.

This marvelous Russian-style church was built on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated in March 1881. The facade is simply imposing and breathtaking. Its one of my favourite spots in this city.

Once again, this enormous, beautiful, bright colored, gilded, onion towered, behemoth of amazing architecture is a must see. If you can, you should attend a service there, because the inside is even more beautiful than the outside. Don't worry about not fitting in. If you don't disrespect, the locals don't mind.

A must see in St. Petersburg! Keep in mind that the church is closed Wednesdays. There's a great open air market across the street that's open everyday. It's recommended that you use cash only.

Fear not! Despite the name, there is no blood here. This beautiful church was built in memory of Alexander ll, who was assassinated on this site in 1881...Thus, the reference to blood. What a place! Even our local guide thinks this building is over the top! Imagine over 75,000 square feet of colorful mosaics covering the interior and exterior. These elaborate mosaics depict saints and biblical scenes. A shrine marks the exact spot where Alexander was slain. If you are going to visit only one church is St. Petersbourg, this is the one!
