Beautiful hike in Zions National Park. Must be in great shape and not be afraid of heights. Not for small children.

Angels Landing is the most popular hike in Zion National Park. This hike, along with The Narrows, draws thousands of visitors per year, most of them during the summer months.

This is a hike where it is more about the journey than the destination. Yes, the view from the first landing at Scouts Peak is spectacular, but the top of Angels Landing will take your breath away. With chain-assisted rock scrambling sections up the second top, aching legs after conquering Walters Wiggles Switchbacks, stunning views, and vertigo-inducing heights, this really is a thrilling hike.

But there are some things you should know in order to have the best experience:
The hike itself is 5.4 miles. The Elevation is 1500 feet
Difficulty: Strenuous ( may not be suitable for smaller children.
Length of Time: 3 to 5 hours
When to go: Year round, although the best seasons are Spring and Fall.
Trail head: The Grotto (stop #6 on the Zion Shuttle)

Classic Zion hike. Well groomed switchbacks lead to a steep, narrow strip with chains. I last hiked this late may. The afternoon was a good time to go because the usually hot, exposed hike becomes shaded. The crowds thin out. Just make sure you calculate enough time for a round trip before sunset and bring your headlamps in case you head back in the dark!

Best Hike ever. 3 miles up. Last 1/2 mile is with chains, so you need to be ok with heights. Take plenty of water. I suggest starting this hike early. If you call ahead, you can get a pass to drive your car in at 5am and start your hike early. Watching the sun rise on Angels Landing will be a moment you will never forget.

The first 2 miles was a great warmup for the rigorous remaining 1/2 mile. I went during winter so it felt like I was pretty much climbing on ice. But when you get to the spot, you feel amazing. Totallly worth it. I probably wouldn't recommend doing it in winter since it's definitely a lot more slippery but doable.

One of the best hikes I've done so far.

Hot weather, leg day, walking 2,5 miles up! HELL YEAH!

Your reward? A breathtaking view and having in mind you can slip, fall and die anytime. HELL YEA

The best part is when you believe you conquered the mountain already and see a lot of people sitting and resting. And then you'll see a sign that says ANGELS LANDING 0,5 miles to your right and then you turn your head to the right and see this giant steep mountain.

You have to grab on the chain railings and pull yourself up

HAVE FUN! It's great.

This is my Favorite Hike that I've been on! It is Challenging but very rewarding. Anyone can get to observation point which is a nice walk but the second half is a lot harder and dangerous! However the view is Amazing and Well worth it! To get to that second spot though you have to cross a natural bridge that is a couple feet wide and has an 1200 ft of the sides! Then you hike up the side of a cliff to get to the most amazing Canyon View I've ever seen!

I think Zion is somewhat overrated compared to Bryce or the Grand Canyon, but this is one of the terrific vistas in the park. Can be crowded in summer.

Amazing experience. I'm afraid of heights and this was a complete adrenaline rush. Wasn't the the most tiring hike, but the view at the end is worth the trip.

It's not the longest hike in Zion National Park, but in some ways it's the most hair-raising. Climb the canyon walls on a gentle switchbacking trail and you think this hike is gonna be easy. Then you get to what locals & rangers call "Chicken-Out Point," where you can see eroded footfalls twisting across sandstone out to a narrow point overlooking the entire canyon. Bring gloves to get a better grip on the cables that have been installed along the last section of the trail to help you keep your balance.

This is the trial I didn't conquer but will in the future.

Even though I didn't make it to the very top, I made it through the first set of chains and the view was spectacular (my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JPvjao2Go8). Actually, the view was spectacular all the way up. So many rich colors for the senses. I loved every minute up and every minute down. Met some great people too.

Next time, I will conquer you!

I don't really fear heights but I fear dying and using chains to climb up is something I need to mentally prepare for. My plan of action is to go early morning--where I don't have to worry about people behind me and feeling rush.

Definitely don't want to feel rush when there are drop-offs on both sides, your main support is chains, and the foothold is slanted (random Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CIN-N5cNwk&feature=related).

General Facts:

--Angels Landing via West Rim Trail starts from the Grotto shuttle stop
--2-4 hours to complete
--5.4 miles round-trip
--Approximately 1500 ft elevation change

Mind over matter...if you focus and respect the trail up top its doable, however not if heights get to you. There is a stopping point prior to hiking the fin at the top, some wait here for friends and family and the view is amazing!

Like Halfdome in Yosemite, but easier, Angel's landing is pretty much a hike straight uphill from the get-go. Once you reach the ridge, it's then a much easier hike, but at this point the difficulty is replaced with a hair-raising hike along the narrow trail that leads to the mountain's peak. The park service has installed chains to help climbers get to the peak, so I'd highly recommend hanging onto them while you go for the top. Have fun!
