South Dakota Holidays

The giant presidential faces of Mount Rushmore aren’t the only reasons why South Dakota is rich with American history, though the monument may be the state’s most popular attraction. There are also the numerous memorial parks honoring key figures from the past, like the Custer State Park and the Crazy Horse Memorial. Deadwood, a frontier town ... Read more
renowned for its lawlessness and rambunction, sits in South Dakota as well. It was here that General Custer led the expedition that discovered gold, and it’s within this town that the famous lawman Wild Bill Hickok was killed. The Wounded Knee Massacre, the last great conflict between the United States and the Lakota Sioux Nation, strained relations that are arguably tentative today. South Dakota, however, is a mix of its many inhabitants, and ethnic and cultural heritage festivals occur throughout the year in celebration of local unity.

Got to ride a horse for the first time. Helped work cattle and move farming equipment. Fun hole in the wall town bars and small town people!

Definitely an underrated state, although the capital is a bit dissappointing. The badlands and winde cave are worth the trip by themselves, and Custer State park is another gem and lake Oahe offers plenty of great opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming.

Great state! Has some great sights, I'd say one of the better midwestern states in America. Just avoid it during the winter! And you might not spend a long time here.
