Snowdon is the second largest mountain in the UK, behind Ben Nevis in Scotland. Snowdon is a long hike up but it is absolutely stunning toward the top. Just be advised that Wales is known for having all 4 seasons in a single day, and that is definitely the case on Snowdon. When we went it was chilly int he morning, it started raining slightly, then it was so hot and finally toward the top it was snowing. Crazy weather, could be the time we went, but fun none the less.

For those not interested in hiking, you can summit the mountain on a train

About an hour by car from the cottage you can walk up- watch the weather out of season though- or even go by train to the summit! Spectacular scenery throughout Snowdonia and this is the most well-known peak but also explore Cadair Idris, The Arans and the Arenigs which are even nearer and less busy for a real breath of Welsh air.

Quite a challenge to do all on foot but there are several routes of varying difficulty. If all else fails you can catch the train all the way to the summit and visit the cafe at the highest point in Wales.
