official and residential buildings set in a garden that was cleverly adapted to the uneven topography of the 58-ha site. The result is an exceptional example of Far Eastern palace architecture and design, blending harmoniously with the surrounding landscape which was recognised by UNESCO in 1997, when it was inscribed as a World Heritage Site.

Beautiful palace in Seoul city from the Joseon Dynasty. You can tour around the grounds on your own for ₩3,000 but I recommend spending ₩8,000 and going on the guided secret garden walk which is where you will see the beautiful scene above and learn a few interesting facts. Enjoy!

Changdeokgung means Prospering Virtue Palace. It is one of the "Five Grand Palaces" built by the kings of the Joseon Dynasty. Changdeokgung was the most favored palace of many Joseon princes.

This is a great place to check out.

Location: anguk station line 3 exit 3?

Cost: 3000 krw for entrance
5000 krw for secret garden guided tour

Palace is great place to wander around and see where kings used to live and hold court.

Protip: you can ask for a wristband to reenter the palace
Protip 2: closing time might be 630pm but the workers start locking up the sections/doors around 615ish.

The secret garden tour is 1.5 hours.
Protip: dont take the english1:30pm tour in the heat.

Overall, a travel destination for local and international travelers. I highly recommend buying tickets to both attractions.

Gyeongbokgung may be the main and biggest of the five grand palaces of Seoul but Changdeokgung solidly wins over the former in terms of beauty and aesthetics. Many will even say it's the most beautiful of the Seoul palaces which is backed up by the fact many of the past members of royalty favored this palace for leisure and rest. It's also the only Seoul palace given status as an UNESCO World Heritage site.

The beautiful palace structures and buildings are quintessentially Korean and were built to harmonize and complement the surrounding nature and landscape- which is reflected perhaps best in the palace's large rear garden grounds called Huwon. Admission to the palace is very inexpensive and worthwhile, and it's especially recommended you explore Huwon, which can only be accessed through reserving a spot on the Huwon tour (either on spot or online), if one has the time.

Admission to Changdeok Palace is very inexpensive in itself and you can even get a special package ticket which allows you admission to other palaces and sites!

This palace is situated near Seochon, Bukchon, and Gyeonbokgung, and I prefer the grounds to those of Gyeongbok palace. In the summer, this place is absolutely beautiful, and the outdoor gardens, greenhouses, and ponds are a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon. There are walking tours available at the entrances to all the palaces if you're interested in brushing up on your Korean history, so don't be afraid to ask someone to point you in the right direction.

The flagship site of Seoul's five Joseon Dynasty-era palaces, Changdeokgung (visited with an included tour, which happens many times a day) is a good spot to get a view of what the capital would have been like before all the concrete and neon. It won't change your world, but if you're interested in the history of Korea, it's a worthwhile and inexpensive visit while you're in Seoul.

Changdeok Palace in Seoul is the prettiest palace of all. This is the King's quarters. The palace compound isn't as huge as Gyeongbukgung's but we had a nice time strolling around.

This is my favorite palace in Seoul (and I have been to basically all of them). The Secret Garden tour, in particular, is excellent, but you may have to book in advance. Go in the spring or fall for the most beautiful conditions.
