Local from Providencia

I went to this hotel during the day and at night and it looked exactly the same. I don’t like that, I don’t like when hotels are dark! It has a nice gym, spa, old-fashioned bar and lots of salons for events, so expect the place to be crowded. The rooms are big and luxurious-looking, which is the feel of the whole hotel. It is definitely not for students or people on a budget as all of its common areas are very fancy. It seems like a great place to stay if you are traveling for business. A tip? Invite your Chilean clients to have a drink at the hotel bar. The staff was not very helpful and it seemed like they were bothered by my questions.

Local from Santiago

I had to wait far too long in reception upon arrival to this hotel. Considering its supposed to be one of the best hotels in Santiago (and one of the most expensive — lots of politicians dine in this hotel’s restaurant) I expected to be offered a first-class service. It’s not what I got. I might have huge lounges, a complete bar, an impressive restaurant with award-winning chefs and a huge pool where you’d happily spend all your free hours, but unless the basic things such as not keeping people waiting are in place, to me, the hotel has failed. I felt like I couldn’t relax in this hotel either. It’s not a place where jeans and a cosy winter jumper is acceptable attire. It just wasn’t for me at all.

It might be one of Santiago’s top hotels, where all the politicians go to dine after their meetings, but this hotel really wasn’t my style at all. I felt like I was being watched all the time and that being dressed in jeans just wasn’t allowed — perhaps this is why they were watching me all the time, I’m not sure. There was a waterfall in the bar area of the hotel and, to be frank, it just seemed a waste of energy and space. I also had to wait a really long time before anyone was free to attend to me. In a hotel of this stature, I would have expected more members of staff on hand in order to deal with enquiries during busy times. I felt nervous about going into the restaurant and I certainly didn’t fit in with anyone drinking in the bar. I was glad when I left. I’m sure lots of people would love the luxury and pompous atmosphere, but it wasn’t for me.
