Local from Providencia

This hotel was absolutely amazing. What I felt inside was an urgent need to stay there right away. The beautiful décor, the fancy-looking wood that prevails throughout the whole place is such an unforgettable touch. The rooms are big and have lots of space to move around. The restaurant looked amazing and the menu seemed Chilean but with an upscale twist. The garden and the pool areas were absolutely beautiful and the rooms have windows and small balconies with a view of it which is something I appreciated a lot. The location of Bidasoa is also a plus. Vitacura is a nice neighborhood, but most of its hotels are located in big avenues and other noisy areas. This one is the opposite, located in a little quiet corner.

I loved this little hotel, tucked neatly away in a corner of Vitacura. I felt really welcome when I arrived and the wood furnishings in the hallways helped to make everything very cosy. I also really liked the numerous indoor patios which kept cropping up all over the place. I also liked the fact that most of its rooms had a direct view of the outdoor pool and gardens. There was lots of green and lots of plants all over this hotel, but the garden also had lots of shady spots to relax in which is important for me as I’m not a big fan of the sun. It was a lovely hotel for sitting in and getting some good reading done and I was really impressed with its wine cellar. Anyone who likes to eat and drink well would have a nice time staying in this hotel.

Buenos Aires

This was a lovely little hotel. I fell in love with the light, airy atmosphere. They had windows all over the place, lots of indoor gardens and plenty of plants dotted around the passageways. I also loved balcony in the room. It was really large, with lovely plants and looked out over a pretty view. The furniture in the hotel was made from raw materials too, like bamboo, tree trunks and wood which hadn’t been cut in a factory. I loved these small touches. It gave the hotel real character. The pool area and garden was large and peaceful. It would be easy for anyone to relax in this space, whether on business or on holiday. I also loved the fact that on the weekends, breakfast is served until a much later hour, which means everyone gets to enjoy a well deserved lay in.

This place has a real Chilean feel, which I really liked. It's about three stories tall, and meanders from the main building to an attached house, and has something like 35 rooms. The room was neat but kind of small, with no real sitting area except a desk. But the design was simple and pretty – wood furniture, crisp white sheets, earthy color scheme. I really dug the inviting, sunny outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by a healthy lawn. Also, the hotel is going through some kind of remodel of its facade, but you couldn't tell that at all – they managed to keep it low key and not disturb the guests. The hotel is not near the Metro, but there are public buses (and lots of taxis) that make it possible to get to other parts of the city. This isn't a super fancy hotel, but it has a pleasing and restful ambiance, and is a very good value.

Puerto Varas, Chile

Hotel Rio Bidasoa sits on an avenue lined by large, leafy trees in a residential neighborhood. Once you cross the 70s-ish lobby and hear the welcoming invitation from the receptionist, this boutique hotel becomes an oasis of sympathy and familiarity. It has an air of being simple but well thought-out, with details like natural lighting in common areas, and a vibrant restaurant and bar open till 11 pm, which extends into terraces by the pool in a well-designed garden. The rooms are spacious, some with balcony, a little dark depending on the time of day. Owners of Spanish origin run this hotel and clearly try to make their guests feel at home.

If you want to stay in a quiet beautiful hotel but you want a place that the locals go to as well, then I highly recommend this hotel. A smaller hotel with only 3 floors and 35 rooms. This was the first top class hotel in Santiago that I felt like I was still in Chile. Elegant landscaping for the ground level pool with barely any noise from the busy city around us. Again, the overall feel of the hotel felt far less central and much more secluded and out in the country. The Rio Bidasoa is a get away that you can take a taxi to and it's affordable without loosing any of the service of a fine hotel.
