Top Santa Fe hotels by interest

New Mexico's capital is a vibrant little city that punches well above its weight when it comes to art. With more galleries than you can shake a stick at, and an impressive opera and classical music scene, Santa Fe is a dream for culture vultures. The quaint adobe houses add to the city's weird and wonderful atmosphere.

Where to stay in Santa Fe

Every traveller is different – while some people love partying on a Friday night, others enjoy long hikes on Sunday mornings. Find the right Santa Fe neighbourhood to base yourself in, and you'll get more out of your trip. We've put together this quick guide to the best places to stay in Santa Fe – you can find more hotels in Santa Fe using our map search.

The Plaza

Santa Fe is a small city, and the Plaza is the beating heart. All of the city's major attractions are within walking distance, and you can easily reach the other neighbourhoods by following the winding lanes from the centre of the plaza. Unmissable attractions include the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, home to a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary which was brought to the city in 1625. The Georgie O'Keeffe Museum, one of the city's most famous galleries, is also in this neighbourhood.

Because this is the centre of Santa Fe there are plenty of hotels to choose from, ranging from cheap and cheerful to luxurious. Top choices include La Fonda on the Plaza, Hotel St Francis, and Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi.

Guadalupe

This historic neighbourhood surrounds Santa Fe railyard, and sits to the southwest of the Plaza. It's the perfect base for history and culture buffs. The main street, Guadalupe Street, was once a pilgrim trail from Mexico, and the area is home to the USA's oldest shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe: dating back to the late 18th Century. There are plenty of small art galleries in the Guadalupe quarter, and the city's cultural museum (El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe).

There are plenty of quirky hotels and boutique B&Bs in Guadalupe, including the Hotel Santa Fe and the Hacienda and Spa. If you're looking for a good budget option, check out the Santa Fe Motel and Inn.

Cerrillos Road

Cerrillos Road is the busiest road in Santa Fe, connecting the Plaza with the I-25. It's lined with modern hotels, and the further you get from the plaza the more likely you are to bag a bargain. The street is a shopper's paradise, lined with high-street and department stores. The city's biggest shopping mall – Santa Fe Place – sits just off this road. Cerrillos Road is also home to Meow Wolf, an immersive art gallery.

Hotels include four star chains such as the Courtyard Santa Fe and Holiday Inn Santa Fe Cerrillos Road. As you get closer to the interstate you'll find a number of wallet-friendly motels, including the Super 8 Santa Fe.

Hotels near Santa Fe Airport

Hotels near Santa Fe Airport are a good option if you've got an early morning flight, or don't mind staying a little way out of the city centre. The airport doesn't have many hotels nearby: the closest is the Sunrise Springs Spa Resort (adults only). There are some hotels a short drive away at the bottom of Carrillos Road, such as the Inn at Santa Fe and Hyatt Place Santa Fe.
