As home to the largest population center in the Galapagos and roughly located in the geographical center, Santa Cruz feels like the de facto capital of the islands. It is the second largest (after Isabela) and had a huge variety of things to see, from the tourist town of Puerto Ayora to the tiny farm villages, and from the beaches and coastline to the cloudy highlands.

Santa Cruz is the main island of the Galapagos and will probably be the one that you fly in to. This island is itself a large dormant volcano and is home to a wide array of Galapagos species – iguanas, birds, tortoises and marine life. There are scores of hotels on the island from high price to bargain basement, and there’s a good selection of shops and restaurants. A good, central place to base yourself if you are doing island hopping.

Love the lava tubes! It's the most touristy of the Galapagos Islands, but also has the most to do socially, nocturnally, etc. Fun place, but being overrun with socioeconomic problems from the mainland.
