perfect if there is no butter inside at all. The tonkotsu broth is not done to my liking, and the miso broth is actually more tastier in comparison (even after you add the dried garlic slices in). Do not go if you have a sensitive stomach, otherwise you might be in for some fun at the end of the day.

This is the perfect spot if you are super hungry and are particular craving for lots of meat.

Great little ramen place that has been in the area for many years. It's also open later on Fridays and weekends for those who like a late dinner. It's a little noisy at times, so not a great place conversation, but the atmosphere is bustling.

Shiro Tan Tan Mien Deluxe is the way to go if you are super hungry and are particular craving lots of meat. You can a thick white broth with chili oil, cha-su, and several chunks of braised pork belly. If you are too full for dessert, just order a class of plum wine

Love this Ramen place in San Mateo. It also does not have those crazy long line like you have for Dojo. Jazz music in the background and nice setting.

Really tasty ramen place. I got the spicy ramen with pork and shrimp dumplings - it was delicious. Atmosphere is cool - corrugated steel trim and old jazz albums on the walls.

Had my prebirthday dinner here with all my friends.Wait is pretty long for a group bigger than 4, but the ambience with the jazz music and records hanging on the wall really makes this place special.

Simple and gratifying ramen but still no Santouka, Ramen Dojo or Orenchi. It is a good alternative when Dojo or Sushi Sam are not accessible due to the crazy long wait on the weekend. Some of the reviews said the ramen here is not authentic but I disagree. I was decently surprised at how nicely the toppings were made. The ramen is done right, at least most parts of it. The thought of the soft boiled egg and the juicy piece of stewed pork belly alone is making me hungry. Unfortunately the noodle was just mediocre and the broth was not as flavorful as I would like. Wakame ramen is refreshing but the Deluxe is the way to go. There are a good amount of toppings in that deluxe bowl of ramen. No extra toppings needed!

In San Mateo at 11pm, and craving soup... Himawari to the rescue! We managed to make it in before they closed at 11:30pm. There aren't that many decent late night options in SM, so I was super happy that Himawari was still open.

So many ramen choices, so little room in my tummy. My eye went straight to the stewed pork belly ramen, which I ordered with shio soup, and my friend had the tan tan men deluxe - the spicy soup with sliced, stewed and ground pork and egg. Mmm... was that spicy broth tasty!! My shio broth was yummy as well, but I'm glad I got to steal a few spoonfuls of the spicy broth for that extra kick. My bowl was full of big stewed pork pieces, but I wished they were cooked longer - like several hours longer - because they could've been way more melt-in-your-mouth tender.
