Ichiban Kan is similar to nearby Daiso. You can get all kinds of Japanese goodies, both useful and ridiculous. I come here mostly for random home goods like kitchen tools and organization supplies, but there is a lot more to browse.

In Japan, this place would be something like Dai Ichi meets Lawson.

Translation (in America):
KMart meets the 99 Cent Store.
Or Wal-Mart meets 7 Eleven.
In Hawaii:
Hilo Hattie meets ABC Store.

Something like that. Actually, this place has more housewife oriented housewares, with some dry foods, at cheap prices. It's like a Japanese version of the 5 and Dime of 50 years ago, except with Japanese brand products made in China, at todays Wal-Mart prices

Still some good bargains, which makes it fun here, because usually Japanese stores cost an arm and a leg.

This is very much like Daiso in other suburban locations around the bay, and also similar to some Chinatown shops on Grant street, with less tourists items.

It's perfect for the Japanese businessman living in San Francisco's wife, who can pick up some comforts of home on a Salaryman's budget.

Ichiban means "Number One" in Japanese. Sort of like, 1 dollar will buy you something here. Maybe not what you want, but something!

There is no doubt that the best place to run to during the break of a zombie apocalypse is a sporting goods store. You'll find all the hockey sticks and Clif Bars you can carry there, as well as bikes and rifles if you're lucky. This is a fact undisputed by the Torah, Koran or Bible.

But if health care reform has taught us anything, the key lies in prevention. So why not save a couple bucks while you're stocking up on survival gear?

At Ichiban Kan, you can find a variety of supplies and non-perishable food items to prepare yourself for the inevitable cataclysm. Opt for the yellow box cutters instead of the red, as it may be difficult to see during the night. A stainless steel metal pan can act as both a cooking platform and a knife deflector (unprepared is modern science in predicting whether the zombies will be of the 28 Days Later or the handier I Am Legend lot). And a multi-utility can opener can be had that opens both tin cans and bottles, in the event you want a flat beer to wash down that last can of baked beans.

All this for $1.50 each.
