fishermen continues to this day. Cioppino's continues that tradition. Almost. We are third generation native San Franciscans who take great pride in both our city and our restaurant. The only difference between us and many of the other family-run restaurants at Fisherman's Wharf is that our family name is not Cioppino. We would have used our family name, but we were forced to admit it simply does not look good in lights

This place is good if you want a tourist like experience, but I probably wouldn't go here with any locals. They have outdoor tables, which is great on a nice night, but a lot of people walking by, and sometimes that's a little stressful for me. The menu is Italian and seafood, so most people will find something they like!

The service at this establishment is wonderful. The restaurant special is none other than Cioppino - hence, the name. Their seafood is fresh and delicious. A must for natives and tourists alike.

This is in the middle of tourist central on your way to Ghirardelli Square, but it's definitely worth the stop. As advertised. For $21.95 you can get a bowl of crab "chip in o's". The serving size is just right for a medium to light meal, but the sauce and flavor is pretty darn good. Long time family friends have a great homemade recipe and this place is the only restaurant that comes close to it. It comes with 2 small tasty pieces of garlic bread. If you want a more filling portion you can order the bigger bowl.

Crab is one of my favorite foods. I love getting some live crab from 99 Ranch or Marina Foods and steaming it. Actually, I have to let my mom to do that because I feel bad for those little guys when we drop them into the steamer.

My date and I headed over to Fisherman's Wharf to walk around and check out the restaurants along Jefferson Street where we could order a whole dungeness crab. Cioppino's seemed like a nice spot, so we decided to try it out. We were actually very pleased with our dining experience there. Our server was very attentive, even though we were seated all the way in the back of the back room. We wanted to share a whole dungeness crab and Cioppino's prepares it in 4 different ways:
1. Traditional (steamed wharf style in our their special spices and fresh herbs),
2. Roasted Garlic (steamed in a roasted garlic, lemon butter sauce),
3. Blackened (steamed in Cajun spices), and
4. Asian (steamed in a ginger and scallion sauce).

I know, what's Asian style crab doing on an Italian restaurant's menu? But we decided to get the Asian style crab, which turned out to be delicious! We also had some clam chowder and popcorn shrimp, which were also very tasty. Our bill came out to $45, which was pretty decent.

Cioppino's has a pretty extensive menu which includes sandwiches, salads, pizzas, pastas, and meat dishes in addition to seafood. it's a pretty large restaurant, so it could be a good spot to take a large group from out of town too.
