located just the opposite of Union Square, this property offers great convenience access to Market Street where some of the shopping malls are located. SF scenic tram terminal just down the street.

Good rooms, though variety in size for the same rate; one room was huge the other quite small. Breakfast was OK, though not outstanding. An SF institution in a great location, though.

The location is amazing as it is right in front of the union square but without a pool and the old walls mean a family screaming next to you or loud couple means you're barely getting any sleep. The rooms are adequate.

Really awesome historic hotel on Union Square, right in the heart of SF! Make sure to request a historic room, it's like stepping back in time. And there's a great wine bar ENO on the ground level.

What a gorgeous hotel lobby.. that's about as far as I got. They decorate for the holidays and have a gorgeous tree and display in the lobby. What I can say is that this location is perfect for someone wishing to enjoy Union Square and all that is in the area. Great restaurants inside!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the glass elevators at the Westin St. Francis! Perhaps they have their own postcard. This is an insider's tip: For a fun 60 second trip and amazing view of the city, walk into the Westin St. Francis. From the lobby, head towards the back by going around the left side. You'll see a bank of elevators. Pretend like you're actually a guest and casually stroll into one, then hit a number on or close to the top. Enjoy the view of the city as you are lifted higher and higher!

Classic grand hotel located conveniently on Union Square. It is close to shopping, eating, site seeing, and the cable car. The Clock Bar near the grand front entrance is a great spot to catch up over specialty cocktails.

Attended the official YELP Unwrapped! Holiday Party at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco with fellow Yelpers! The event was huge. At least 3000 Yelpers attended tonight to enjoy free food and drinks from many restaurants, including Espetus, Tryptich, Urban Tavern, and more! Tonight's event was a foodie lover's paradise!

Arrived in line at 6:30 PM, and was able to get in by 7:20ish. The YELP staffers were very efficient and always on hand for questions. Unlike a clubbing line, things were very well coordinated and organized. Once we got into the hotel, it was time to eat! The lines were long, but there was plenty of food to go around for the early birds. The drinks were pretty good too, with a lot of them mixed with Honest Tea. My favorite dishes of the night: the roasted chestnut soup, the pumpkin moose, spareribs, and multi-flavored gelato! To top it off also, there were some erasable boards where we were able to write our favorite foodie quotes: "I don't eat to live - I LIVE to EAT!", "If it looks nasty, it must taste great!", and "It's my duty to please my belly!" The event was totally fun and opened my eyes to the different types of foods! Looking forward to next year's YELP Holiday Party!

The only hotel in San Francisco's famous Union Square, the Westin St. Francis offers world-class luxury on top of one of the best locations in the city. It's surrounded by incredible shopping, restaurants and is just a short walk from Chinatown, the Financial District and the Moscone Convention Center. There's even a cable car stop right outside the front door.

You couldn't have a better location but room quality really varies and some units are in desperate need of renovation. Very popular for conferences and can be insanely crowded / overrun. A good choice if it is on fire sale but, otherwise, other nearby properties offer similar convenience with less hassle.

Westin St. Francis may have the best hotel location in all of San Francisco. Directly facing Union Square, it’s front side forms one of the four wall of buildings enclosing the park. During Christmas, it’s even more beautiful as the building is illuminated in a dramatic fashion such that it serves as a wonderful backdrop for photos of the Union Square Christmas tree. Within the hotel is the restaurant Michael Mina, reputedly one of the best restaurants in the city that rivals Gary Danko and The Dining Room at Ritz-Carlton.

I came here once for a large party within their banquet rooms. The space is large and the hotel staff were very friendly. Everything was clean and I really enjoyed my experience. They did a great job keeping a large crowd in check.

I can’t comment on the rooms as I’ve never stayed here. I can only share my experiences about their events room and location.

True this hotel is in a great location, but it is badly in need of a renovation. Rooms felt shabby and run down - not what I expect from a Westin hotel. If you prefer Starwood, the St Regis and the W are not far away and are much nicer hotels.

In Union Square and housing the Michael Mina Clock Bar along with several other dining options, the famous Westin St. Francis is more than just a place to lay your head. The hotel is smack dab in the middle of Union Square with a cable car line directly outside, so you're just a few minutes by foot or cable car to dozens of San Francisco's best restaurants.

I love the classic feel of the Westin St. Francis, although some of the rooms in the older towers are TINY, so I'd recommend the newer highrise towers if you can't get one of the big rooms overlooking Union Square. Speaking of Union Square, you can't beat the location for shopping, dining, etc. Tip: Get up early and take the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf when there's no line!

Perfectly located downtown San Francisco by Union Square. Nice rooms and great views. This view is taken from the 32nd floor overlooking San Francisco.

Lots of options for sightseeing, dining, and shopping.

You can't get any closer to Union Square staying here. It's right across the street! Thus, this hotel is very convenient to all the action in and around Union Square. During my stay, the hotel provided friendly and accommodating customer service, premium fitness facilities, and a heavenly bed. However, the hotel needs a renovation. It felt old, creaky, and a bit shabby. As a Westin hotel, I expected a higher level of commitment to keeping the rooms up-to-date.

This is the tale of two hotels: the Westin St. Francis "historic" section and the Westin St. Francis "tower" section.

Like ye-olde San Francisco? Stay in the historic section. Small rooms where everything is reminiscent of an era gone by.

Like modern tech-savvy San Francisco? Stay in the tower section. Generous rooms with great views, modern decor, and fancy elevators.

I had a one-night stay on the 28th floor of the tower section. Above the ~20th floor, rooms facing Union Square have a view of the Bay Bridge, the ice skating rink, and Macy's. Amenities are the Westin-standard and the rooms are clean. Gold and Platinum members get 4pm checkout, so this is the ideal place for a Saturday night stay to support some leisurely Union Square shopping.

My mom and I stayed at this hotel the night before we walked in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Our (brief) stay was divine! The beds were very comfortable, the instant coffee in the room was drinkable, and the bathroom was lovely. The room was so comfortable, it was very difficult to respond to our 4 AM wake-up call!

Check in was easy; the lobby is gorgeous and the staff was very friendly. The staff's name tags stated their home countries/states and their hobbies. The staff member who helped us was from England, and loved travel.

The elevator ride is scary- in a totally fantastic way. The elevator is positioned on the side of the building, and the outside wall is glass. We got to watch Union Square fall below us as we rose up to our hotel room. Like I said- it was fantastic, but scary for those who are afraid of heights like me.

The Westin St. Francis is a wonderful hotel. It has beautiful architecture and is conveniently located in the Union Square area. There is plenty of things to do in the area. Plenty of shipping, dining, and bars in the area. The staff is very kind and they make sure you have an excellent stay. The rooms were also larger than I had expected. I have gotten accustomed to the large sized Vegas rooms only to be disappointed when I realize that not all hotel rooms are that large. However, the Westin St Francis rooms are not bad at all. I had booked too rooms and was lucky enough to get adjoining rooms. This was more than enough space for the 8 people in our party. Everyone was able to comfortably sleep with out feeling like sardines. Our rooms were also located on the top floor near the elevators. We had a great view. This Westin is not a bad place to stay. If you appreciate architecture this is the hotel for you. However, if you want a more modern style room then the Westin on Market might be a better fit.

Note: Parking is also very expensive anywhere in the city. We found the best option for parking was the Sutter Stockton Garage. Its only about 2 blocks away from the hotel. If you don't mind walking this a an awesome option. Unless you want to pay $50/night at the hotel.
