Description
Only a handful of hotels in San Francisco deserve the moniker 'icon,' but the Palace Hotel is at the top of this list. The world's largest hotel when it was opened in post-Gold Rush San Francisco in ... Read more
1875 and rebuilt after the 1906 earthquake, the Palace has seen its fair share of history (including the death of both President Warren G. Harding and the last reigning king of Hawaii). The exquisite stained glass ceiling and chandeliers above the Garden Court have feted afternoon tea and dining guests for over 100 years. However, the Palace Hotel has thoroughly modernized over the years. In a coveted location a short walk from the financial district, Moscone Convention Center, Union Square and AT&T Ballpark, the Palace Hotel has a fully equipped business center, concierge services, an indoor heated pool and services for business meetings in several conference rooms throughout the hotel (as well as fantastical weddings in the Garden Court). San Francisco locals have been drinking their whiskeys and martinis at the famed Pied Piper Bar for 100 years.

The Peter Pan room is an elegant, if not quiet, to have drinks. It's the opposite of cheap (17 for a glass of wine) so if you're on a budget best to stop at one.

Beautiful hotel. Stopped by here for brunch and saw the rooms as well. While they are a bit older, they are still beautiful and it resembles the old San Francisco.

We stayed at the hotel with kids, the hotel is traditional but looks like it was recently renovated, the rooms are nicely designed and comfortable, the service is good the breakfast could be better, if we stay there again I will not eat at the hotel it's not great and really expensive. It's a big hotel so if you are more of a boutique hotel type, this may not be the place for you.

A beautiful historic hotel with high celling and marvelous chandeliers. The rooms are very comfortable but not luxury . The breakfast buffet was a bit disappointing . It is more like 4.5 star hotel

Beautiful centrally located historic hotel with breathtaking design and insanely incredible attention to detail! Even if you're not staying here, it's worth stopping by to stroll through the grand hallway to take in the architecture. Great spot for brunch or high tea. There's also a great old school bar and a Ghirardelli Ice cream bar if you want to avoid the scads of crowds at the Wharf. Interesting fact: this was one of the few structures in the area that survived the big 1906 quake, needless to say, it's pretty solid!

An original hotel in San Francisco with a lot of history on its property. The breakfast buffet is amazing and matches the interior of the hotel.

This is one of those kinds of hotels that you wish you didn't have anything else to do so you don't have to leave the room.
The architecture is goooorgeous, the location is amazing, right on Market Street, the rooms are large, the beds are comfy and there are fluffy robes for you to wear in the room.

What a charming hotel! So much character and the preservation of history is wonderful. The rooms are smaller and modest, in keeping with the time period and everything is very true to the age of the building. Still very clean and comfortable. A quaint taste of history with the modern amenities you'd expect. The lobby and dining room are gorgeous!

Only the best for this princess!

The Palace Hotel in San Francisco! Located directly in front of the BART. Easy to get to if you're coming from the airport.

It's in the middle of everything. And, for those nights when you're out late and everything seems to be closed... McDonalds is right next door.

I didn't have any problems staying at this hotel. No bugs, dirty sheets, or dirty/loud neighbors. You couldn't even hear them.

Also, the beds weren't bumpy all over like another review said.

Favorite spot in the hotel: The Garden Court. So pretty. I feels like you're in a castle.

Good price. Good service. Easy to get to. Great breakfast buffet. Short walk to the pier. Prime spot. What more can you ask for?

One of the grand dames of San Francisco, the Palace oozes traditional opulence with its marbles, woods, and crystals. The service here is always top notch. This historical hotel is really beautiful inside and out.

There isn't much to say from what's already been said here. Luxurious, spacious, elegant at its finest in downtown San Francisco. It is walking distance to Union Square, the Ferry Building, or AT&T Park. The staff is accommodating and gives you first class treatment. If you're in San Francisco for a few days, this is one of the best places to stay!

The Palace Hotel is perhaps the most significant hotel in San Francisco. Before the Great Quake of 1906, it was here that all the hot shots and bigwigs would dine. The great Italian tenor Enrico Caruso stayed here during the tremor that leveled the city, and ran out soon after, vowing never to return to San Francisco.

"An 'ell of a place!" he screamed, his servant carrying his trunks behind him.

Today, the Palace Hotel is no less exquisite. Dining under the dome is a luxurious experience. Simply being in the lobby is like stepping into the decadent past.

The Palace Hotel holds occasional tours of the property. I suggest you schedule yourself a walkthrough on your next visit to San Francisco!

Excellent location and, boy, are those beds comfortable but somehow feels like it's an historical attraction which has had all of its charm squeezed out. I was upgraded to a double king deluxe, which was pleasant and mercifully soundproofed despite facing on to Market Street. If only the same could've been said of the soundproofing between bedrooms: I was treated to an extended soundtrack of a couple staying next door who, how can I put it, were delighted to be spending some private time together. The indoor pool was a real boon for swimming off a serious bout of get lag.

When an entire book has been written about a single hotel, you know the place has got some serious historical clout. From Amelia Earhart and Kevin Bacon to Woodrow Wilson and Hillary Clinton, the list of visiting dignitaries is a who's who of modern history. Brunch or afternoon tea in the marble column and glass-domed Garden Court has been a tradition for a century. Not staying here? Come for a free tour, every Saturday and Tuesday at 10am or Thursday at 2pm.

The Palace Hotel is one of the most architecturally beautiful buildings in SF. If you're looking for a central place to stay when traveling to the city, or just looking for a great weekend retreat for a little "staycation," the Palace Hotel is always a great choice.

If you're a luxury traveler, then The Palace Hotel is where you'll want to stay. It is one of SF's most beautiful and grand landmarks, and holds so much interesting history. For anyone searching for a venue to have their wedding, this hotel would definitely provide you with a fairytale setting. The Garden Court is spectacular as it is. Enjoy one of their lovely brunches or throw an opulent affair there.

Waking up in this hotel every morning I was in San Fransisco definitely added a lot to my experience! It is a gorgeous place to leave at the beginning of your day and to return to at the end. It's also in a great location; walking distance to any kind of transportation, Union Square is right around the corner, and of course right on Market Street!
