The hotel is located in the nice part of the city. I have a horrible memory about the transportation they offer During limited hours( complimentary ??). We had a reservation in a special restaurant while visiting SF. Got in the car , and the driver took us to the wrong place. After riding for 15 min, he pointed out that he doesn’t have time to take us to the correct place since he has important people to take to a special place. He took us back to hotel! Guess what? We paid money for visit but still not “important”. The hotel personnel saw us coming back but were not in the mood to adk about our experience

One of San Francisco's most iconic hotels in terms of sheer size and extravagance. This hotel often is a host to lots of conferences, exhibitions and more. A very nice space indeed.

I have not stayed at this hotel before. But I did take my wife to The Top of the Mark for a Tea service. I was extremely impressed. It is located at the top of Nob Hill which is the highest point in the city of San Francisco. The Top of the Mark is a rooftop restaurant and lounge that has a 360 degree panoramic view of the city, including stunning views of the bay and it's bridges. The hotel is first class.

I like this Nob Hill Hotel, and I really enjoy the Top of the Mark restaurant/bar at the top of the property. Whether you are staying here or not, the bar is worth a visit for a breathtaking view of SF from one of the highest vantage points.

Hard to believe it has been fifty years since Tony Bennett first introduced his beautiful song, I Left My Heart In San Francisco. But after my experience last week at InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco, I can definitely understand why Bennett chose to sing the song in the first place.

While there is something so unique and romantic about the entire city, the opportunity to enjoy a drink at the Top Of The Mark on Nob Hill and look out over Bennett’s “City By The Bay,” well, it just embraces your heart!

I've only stayed here once, but I think this place is better to eat at (at the Top of the Mark) or just drink and dance at, than to stay. There is a beautiful gingerbread house that looks like a mini hotel in the lobby during the holiday months - and that is great! However, for a luxury-priced hotel they could step things up a BIT. Our room service came with jam jars that have already been used (and I mean mini one-use jam jars) and they were a BIT over the top about making the guy I was dating pay for his bill before they would give him his car from the valet - when he was a valued customer who has been there several times before and has a credit card on file. Not sure what was up with that. BUT 4 stars because it is still super nice.

Menlo Park

A railroad baron's property since the 1870s and a hotel since just after the 1906 earthquake and fire, this landmark on top of Nob Hill has been a staple of San Francisco culture for over 100 years. From romantic sunset dinners in the elegant Top of the Mark restaurant to a concierge desk that knows all of the best spots in town, the Mark Hopkins Hotel is known amongst the cultural elite as *the* place to stay in San Francisco.

There is something very regal feeling about walking into the lobby of the Mark Hopkins. Soaring ceilings, huge crystal chandeliers - it feels like stepping into a scene from a 20s gangster film. Overall we had a good stay here. The rooms were small but nice, with great views over the city. The beds were pretty comfortable. Service was solid.

Classic upscale hotel. Great top floor lounge that overlooks the City and bay.

The Mark Hopkins is old school glamour, with rooms that are classically regal. You can score some fantastic deals here on Priceline (we're talking about $140/night).

Since it's perched at the top of Nob Hill across from the Grace Cathedral, you'll get some of the most beautiful views of SF around. Definitely ask for a higher floor, but even on the 7th floor, views were gorgeous. Rooms are nicely appointed and comfortable. Don't expect them to be very large unless you get a suite.

Make sure to go up to Top of the Mark at sunset for some cocktails (their selection of martinis is huge) and try the grilled cheese platter. The view is breathtaking up there.

Greater New York City

I've stayed in one of the suites before and it had the most beautiful sun room. The staff is very attentive and the Top of the Mark has stunning views of the city. Sometimes they have old timey jazz bands which goes perfectly with an old fashion. It's in a great part of the city too. Close enough to walk downtown but also quiet.

I am instantly transported back to old San Francisco when I'm here. From the gorgeous guest rooms to the history of the Top of the Mark, I have this feeling of reconnecting with what it must have been like to be in San Francisco in the 40s. The staff is so overwhelmingly friendly and welcoming, it's ridiculous. My favorite kind of hotel in the world is a fancy place that doesn't feel at all snooty (think sophisticated rather than glitzy). The Mark Hopkins epitomizes this for me.

If that wasn't enough, you're five seconds from a cable car (or walk straight down or uphill) from Union Square and the rest of downtown San Francisco. Be sure to enjoy the sun from Nob Hill Park and walk through the labyrinths (one indoors, one outdoors) at Grace Cathedral across the block from the hotel.

The rooms at the Mark Hopkins are pretty upmarket-standard. Fancy, but not flashy. Clean and crisp, but not modern. The decor is a little gaudy, though some would just call that "period".

The reason this hotel really shines is the unparalleled view to be had from the roof. Whether you have the breakfast buffet (I could take it or leave it, honestly) or not, you won't be sorry you stopped by to take in the view. Almost unobstructed, you can see everything from Alcatraz to the Golden Gate Bridge to Berkeley and the Financial District.

The cable car will take you right to the bottom of the hotel. Two for one!
