Saha, serves Arabic fusion food, Moroccan lamps and Chinese dressers decorate the lobby, along with globes and textiles from around the world. It’s a fun space to walk into and it inexplicably smells like a spa (even though there’s no spa inside). When I arrived, guests were sitting by the fireplace (to hide from the chilly SF summer fog). The rooms are clean and modern with flat screen TVs, safes, coffee and tea, and robes. Valet parking is available, and recommended in the area and a lot of parking is limited to just 2 hours without a permit. Or, don't drive and just walk around the city-the closest bus stop is an easy walk and it connects to the MUNI.

This is a lovely hotel. I actually stayed the night here before moving into the neighborhood. Only thing is that the walls are paper thin!

This hotel exceeded most of our expectations. We didn't know what to expect at check in. The rooms were functional but quaint; you could hear people in nearby rooms but it was quiet during late hours. The pillows and bed were hypoallergenic which was a huge plus as well.

I liked this hotel, they have a free wine hour, good location, low price, friendly staff, and their Wifi worked. Nothing extra fancy but it met and slightly exceeded what i expected for the price.

I love this neighborhood. If you want to be close to some real local joints but still within walking distance of downtown, Hotel Carlton is a good choice. Polk Street is just a few blocks west, where you’ll find amazing bars and restaurants. Geary Street is just south, where you can reach a number of ethnically diverse restaurants. You don’t even need to go far: A Zagat-rated Middle Eastern restaurant, Saha, is on premises, and Fly Bar, a bar and restaurant, is just next door.

I don’t think I’ve visited a Joie de Vivre hotel I didn’t like. Perhaps it’s the complimentary wine reception. That always helps. Moreover, the service and the quality of their properties are always spot on, and Hotel Carlton is no exception. It’s a very pretty place, and the rooms live up to the style of the lobby: They’re large, clean and excellently decorated.

Those wishing to stay downtown should note that this hotel is a casual 20-minute walk away (it’s a nice walk with potentially lots to see). There are numerous buses that can take you downtown as well.

If you are looking for a budget room that includes a comfortable bed, quiet hallways and a fantastic location then no need to look any further than the Hotel Carlton.

The hotel is situated on Nob Hill and is within easy walking distance to Union Square. The rooms are clean and comfortable and is what you would expect to find in most "boutique" type properties. There is plenty of parking in the area including a pay lot located right across the street. As a previous reviewer already mentioned, there is a complimentary wine reception at 5:30 every evening, but it only lasts for 30 minutes and the wine isn't the best. However, Fly Bar is right next door and offers and extended happy hour.

When booking this hotel please do your homework and shop around a bit on other sites. They seem to offer lower rates on Priceline and on other discount websites.

If you are looking for a Ritz Carlton then this may not be your cup tea. But if you are just looking for a quality budget room in a safe neighborhood then this just may be perfect choice.
