excavations were being performed during the construction of the monument, workers discovered old Roman mosaics, in which an ancient Roman text reading “Here lives fortune, no evil shall ever pass this place,” was written. Those mosaics, and the impressive statue of Mozart, can be seen at the square today, as can the city palace Rehlingen.

There isn't much to say about this place. It's a mostly empty place, exept for that golden ball.

Probably best known for its statue of Mozart, which caused a little controversy and many raised eyebrows. The main reason is because Mozart is holding a pen in the statue, but pens weren't invented whilst he was alive! The building of this memorial was delayed many times too, and a lot of money was donated by King of Bavaria Ludwig I, who was a huge Mozart lover. It's worth going to see what all the fuss is about, and how much of a likeness to Mozart you think the statue is.

The Mozartplatz is right next to the Residenzplatz so it's worth to go and see the Mozart monument, but that is the only interesting thing here.

Salzburg is the hometown of Mozart, so there are many references to the famed composure throughout the city. Mozartplatz (Mozart Square) is an example. It's marked by a statue of the man himself in the center of the square.

It is a wide square with many interesting buildings. A museum, some shops, cafe. As it is quite wide it is used also for open air concerts and exhibitions.
