Going on holiday to Rotterdam? Skyscanner can find you the best deals for Rotterdam hotels and flights to Rotterdam.

Known as the ‘city of architecture’, Rotterdam’s skyline is a timeline of every possible kind of modern design from the twentieth century. There are also many beautiful historical buildings including the stunning art-deco City Hall and the seven remaining whitewashed windmills that still grind spices and snuff to this day.

Rotterdam hotels cater for all visitors. Northwest of the city is the Stadscamping Rotterdam campsite, easily reached by the comprehensive transport system of trams, buses and metro. In the city, tuk tuks and excellent bicycle routes provide an alternative to public transport. There are several hostels in the city centre including the famous Stayokay Rotterdam Cubic Houses where all the rooms are different sizes and nothing is square. These are close to the bars and clubs, so perfect if you’re planning to party. B&B’s offer a more ‘local’ experience, while the lovely riverside neighbourhood of Scheepvaartkwartier has some nice three star options. The Golden Tulip boasts beautiful harbour views. If you like your hotels with history, the Hotel van Walsum, on the tree-lined Mathenesser Lane, is the oldest in Rotterdam, built in 1895.

The Oude Haven (Old Harbour) is the perfect place to wine and dine in anything from Michelin starred restaurants to Turkish style markets, while HEMA and De Bijenkorf are Rotterdam’s prime places to shop. If you want to haggle for bargains, head to City Market and the bustling, colourful Afrikaanderplein Market.  If you love the water, Rotterdam’s four large lakes provide ample opportunity for sailing, water skiing, rowing and windsurfing. Adrenalin junkies can even skydive over the city with a local skydive school.

Spend a quirky day on the De Pannenkoekenboot, a boat ride where you can eat all the pancakes you want, alternatively climb the Euromast tower, explore the historic Pilgrimfather’s Church, stroll the botanic Gardens or visit the zoo or the many wonderful museums dotted around the city.

Did you know..?

The Port of Rotterdam was once the largest in the world, until it was superseded by Shanghai.

Sadly, Rotterdam’s city centre was completely destroyed by bombing during World War II which is why it now has so much modern architecture. It also has a statue called the ‘Destroyed City’, which symbolises a city without a heart.

Just a thirty minute train ride from the city centre lies a glorious sandy beach in the Hook of Holland, wonderful for family days out in the sun.
