Tradition has it that throwing a coin over your left shoulder into the fountain guarantees a swift return to the world's most beautiful city. Anita Ekberg's dip in it was immortalized in Federico ... Read more
Fellini's La Dolce Vita, and Italian actor Toto even sold it to an American, passing himself off as its owner. Earlier Fontana di Trevi was the setting for the award-winning Three Coins in the Fountain motion picture, ensuring its popularity worldwide. Designed by Nicola Salvi for Pope Clemente XII, it was completed in the second half of the 18th Century. The statues in the center represent Neptune supported by Tritons on either side while rococo-style Poli Palace provides the perfect backdrop.

It’s been 20 years since I laid eyes on this simply breathtaking fountain. It was renovated in 2015. Just walking the cobblestones streets to come upon this little plaza and see the beautifully carved marble of the god Oceanus and his water horses. It’s a tourist attraction now but this Trevi fountain was the only supply of pure water in Rome, people would bring buckets to the fountains, and collect water to take home.

Don’t try to drink the water in the fountain today, but there is a supply of potable water in the right hand corner of the fountain, where you can fill you water bottle.

It’s good to know that the money
generated by making wishes in the fountain 3000 Euros a day
The coins are collected every night and given to charity Caritas. Throwing coins in Trevi Fountain is symbolic. One coin ensures a return trip to Rome, the second will ensure a new romance, and the third will ensure marriage. So make a wish! 5 stars!

Quite an astonishing fountain! You're bound to see crowds here, so you may need to wait for the ideal photo op. Coming here at night would have been great!

While this is a must see and absolutely beautiful, the crowds can kill it for you. When we walked up to it, it was turned off for cleaning. Lots of people left but we stayed until they turned it back on. We lucked out and were able to get up close without having to fight lots of people. We didn’t have time, but I’ve heard going first thing in the morning is a great way to see it without people too!!

Hard to see this place without picturing Anita Ekberg cavorting in it In La Dolce Vita. Today you’re more likely to get poked by a tourist with a selfie stick.

Top tip: it's well known that if you throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain backwards it is said you will one day return.
Something else to do there: if you're a sports fan - visit Bevy's just opposite the fountain. Great, cheap sportswear. Haven't had a problem with it!

Iconic place of Rome but overwhelmed by tourists! Go there early in the morning (before 9am) or later after dinner to experience its full beauty with calm. Please be respectful and don’t dive in the basin or go over the sculptures!

An icon of Rome! It's as pretty as the pictures! Make sure you throw some money in the fountain because you'll be guaranteed to come back to Rome.

Nearby Via Del Corso there is one of the most important monuments of Rome “Fontana di Trevi” (Trevi Fountain). The fountain has appeared in several films such as “La Dolce Vita” and it is a popular tourist attraction. The original legend says that if you throw a coin into the fountain ( with your back to the monument, throwing the coin with your right hand over your left shoulder), this will ensure you a return to Rome.

Trevi Fountain, like most of Rome was a beautiful piece of history. There was a lot of people however, but if you are able to find a place to sit and relax is very nice. There are many shopping areas around the fountain in case you like to shop :)

Such a great hangout in Rome! Although very touristic, our hotel was right around the corner and we passed the Fountain each day!

The site is always full of tourists admiring the beautiful Roman icon and hoping for the perfect photo opportunity. It is also admired by filmmakers who often chose the site as a backdrop for their picture. It is a must go-to for all visitors whilst in Rome. Do not forget to drop a few pennies for luck!

Make sure to throw three coins in the fountain! One to return to Rome, on for love, and one other wish of your choice! This beautiful landmark can't be missed!

3 coins in the fountain.
I was accompanying my mom and 2 aunts on a trip to Rome and the trip was not complete with out visiting the Trevi Fountain (per my companions, lol). They saw the 1954 film 3 Coins in the Fountain and wanted to see it for themselves.

The fountain is beautiful.
It is also very busy and crowded. The tour buses will attest to that. hahaha.
Jockeying for position on the fountain can be a little hairy, but well worth it for that perfect picture to bring back home.

Also remember to throw coins into the fountain.
I have heard 2 coins and 3 coins.
I say 3 (to go with my theme)
Throwing one coin will guarantees a return visit to Rome.
Throwing a second coin will ensure a new romance.
Throwing a third coin will ensure marriage.
So be careful how many coins you throw. hahaha.

Definite a good spot to see.

A must visit in Rome, although it's really crowded. Throw the coin from right hand to left shoulder to give you good luck to return to Rome again.

Obviously a beautiful and historical stop in Rome (and newly restored!) but would recommend going at a strange time or day to avoid crowding.

I loved the Trevi Fountain. There's not much to do except battle huge crowds and toss a coin in for luck, but it's a beautifully ornate piece of architecture - and a cool spot to relax at during a hot summer day in Rome.
