Well worth your time. Excellent museum, not as food as the Louvre but still excellent.

You see so much art representing history and myths that surround you in visiting Rome.

Take at east 1-2 hrs. Area can have gypsies and pick pockets. Use a money belt and don't loiter outside- get on your way to next place.

Near Termini, a visit here was the perfect choice for me on a cool rainy Roman day. Wow was I pleasantly surprised! Not only do they have TWO amazing Greek bronzes (really rare, and I was disappointed that the Boxer was at the Met in NYC during my visit) but they also have an eye-opening collection of Roman mosaics. The mosaics seem so fresh and contemporary. Don't miss the reconstructed room with painted murals of a summer garden from a Roman villa.

Founded in 1889 the museum holds most of the antiquities found in Rome since 1870 as well as existing collections of classical arts. The exhibits displayed in the Palazzo Massimo near the central Termini are originals dating from the 2nd century BC to the end of the 4th century AD. On the 2nd floor particularly are decorations from public buildings including beautiful frecoes and detailed mosaics from ancient Roman villas.

A beautiful museum. Wonderful displays, laid out in a way that makes it easy to get around, and an admirable collection - especially The Boxer of Quirinal, my favorite. Such detail in bronze is very impressive.

Magliano Sabina
