AD and is a living monument to the technological expertise of the ancient Romans. The amphitheater hosted up to 50,000 people for gladiator fights, executions and animal hunts (including lions or crocodiles imported from Africa for the popular entertainment). In the summer of 2010 the Colosseum's underground -- including its animal cages and gladiator chambers -- was once again opened to visitors.

You cannot come to Rome without seeing the Colosseum. You need to have a guided tour to get the full experience and to get a grasp of the history of the place. Exhibits show maps and 3D printed models of the structure. SImply amazing!

If you do not get here early, you will be waiting a long time. Also, there are a lot of scam artists around the outside.

This was my second time going to the Colosseum. It is so magnificent in person. We went with What a Life tours and did the underground tour. That was SO cool. They only let a select few people underground per day, so it’s a really cool thing to see. I highly recommend going and using a tour group that can get you in to the more secluded areas!

I went there on s school trip and all i can say about it is that even in 1 hour you wont full see everything. Its amazing with good disabled access and signs to get around.

Top tip: Avoid the really long queues by pre booking a place then simply redeem tickets and fast track your way past everybody who's not as smart as you!
PS Don't forget to smile smugly as you drift past them all

Historic spot that is a must-see location and photo spot. Entering the site is optional as it is just as compelling to walk around.

Amazing sight. Probably not worth paying for entrance. Beware of all the frauds trying to sell you something

Make sure to download a audible tour (Rick Steves) for a walking tour. Cool to see how modern areas got their start.

Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is an elliptical monument built of concrete and stone. It was the largest amphitheatre of the Roman Empire and is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering. This is a must-see in Rome and just 14min by walk!

What hasn't been said about the history of this structure. My suggestion is try and tour at the coolest part of the day. It dies get hot starting in late May. The street hawkers were very annoying and watch for pick pockets.

The Colosseum is the symbol of Rome. It is simply stunning. Unfortunately I only had a day in the city and I could not beat the queues and ended having a partial experience of it only. I will definitely go back soon.

Outside men dressed in pageantry Roman uniforms pose for photos. Beware they are pushy and will request money.
