Description
This may be the world's most famous, and biggest, party. Although Carnival is celebrated throughout Brazil and the world, everyone knows that Rio de Janeiro is where's it's at, baby. Donning costumes ... Read more
made of colorful feathers and sequins, Brazilians and visitors alike dress to impress and samba the night away every year. For many, this isn't only a 4-day affair -- costume designers dream up their outfits months in advance and dance troupes spend long days practicing their choreography months ahead of the big celebration. Takes place in March or late February.

THE best time to enjoy yourself in town! All day long party for a full week, and party on a budget.
If you wish to have a peacefull trip, stay out of the capital or just don’t come this time of the year, because it’s way too crowded

What can you say other than if you are here during this event you must spend some time at Carnival. Over the top, incredible, large, noisy, I could keep going but you get the idea. We also enjoyed viewing the floats before and after the performances:before on the street near the site and after near the port being transported to the warehouses.

Carnival is simply one of the greatest parties on earth. Celebrating the five days leading up to the Catholic holiday, Ash Wednesday, the samba classes in Rio are televised meeting up to parade, party, and strutt their stuff at the Sambodromo.

The Rio Carnival is the biggest carnival in the world, welcoming over 2 million
people a day to the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Entire samba schools are formed to compete with other locals in the various events. The samba schools work to build fantastic floats, costumes, and themes to represent their teams throughout the carnival.

Five minutes walk from the flat and you are in the Sambodrome, the Samba Parade.
Or, five minutes in the opposite direction and you are in one of the main Streets in Lapa, the bohemian district.

A visit to Samodromo - you will arrive in the evening and be there all night - to see the fantastic display of dance and color is a once in a life time experience.

The Brazilian Carnaval is the largest cultural event on the planet celebrated every year by natives and visitors across cities and streets in Brazil. This event is formed by 12 Samba Schools containing an average of 4k performers each and several mechanic floats; these groups are essentially social clubs representing a particular neighborhood. Each school is strictly allowed 80mins to perform through the open-air Sambadrome (a mile long street with concrete seating areas on each side designed to host the parade). Schools are strictly graded on performance time, costumes, music originality and overall theme. Visitors can purchase costumes from one of the samba schools to participate in the parade. Besides, over 600 street parties (Blocos de Rua) take place across Rio de Janeiro during the carnival week.

The greatest party on earth! Be mesmerized by the colourful and creative floats, dancing performers and great music! Plus enthusiastic crowds to cheer them along.

I don’t know what to say about Rio-Carnival.Net. We purchased tickets with them and ordered to be delivered to the hotel. I got an envelope at the Hotel Ibiza after waiting for two hours at lobby to realize the tickets were misplaced. The tickets were supposed to be for Sunday and instead we got Monday tickets. We called and called and could never find anyone. A taxi driver helped us find the place but it was a home in the suburbs with nobody to talk to. We ended up missing the carnival parade because our flights back home were on Monday night. My wife was destroyed to have flown all the way down to Rio, coming back home without watching the parade.

Carnaval parade is filled with revelers, floats from numerous samba school which are located in Rio. I have danced samba in the middle of the Carnaval parade with the samba group called Portela in 2002. It was an amazing experience to be in the Carnaval or to watch the parades goes by.
