I really only go to the old port for the nightlife. Good places to go on Wharf and Pearl street.

Old Port is the historic old district of Portland. We spent some time strolling here and popping in and out of the many shops lining the streets. It's a pretty area, with cobblestone streets and old brick buildings. It was (unfortunately) raining through most of our visit, so walking around was quick and harried, but in between the varying degrees of drizzle and downpour, we managed to take in quite a bit of this area. I spent a lot of souvenirs here, as well.

Amazing place and tons of things to do in the area! Great restaurants in walking distance to ample parking lots and garages. Seemed to have lots of live bands and events going on around the scenic views of the waterway and boats.

A bit touristy, but there are some good bars/eateries and it's a fun place to walk around (clean and relatively safe).

Touristy, but fun! This is a pretty older section of the city with restaurants, bars, music, and a movie theater. It's right near the water and the ferries as well. Worth a visit, in fact, some like this area the best. Walking distance.

When I was a kid, Portland was not that exciting of a city…but the refurbished Old Port is fun, lots of shopping, eating, and drinking possibilities. I like '3 Dollar Dewey's', they have an incredible array of draft beers!
