Brought to Maine by the Sprague family and lovingly tended by railroad buffs, this is an interesting ride along the waterfront in Portland.

Great if you have a family- kids love riding the train- it does not go far but it is cute and fun.

Fun little train ride along the waterfront. History for the adults and opportunity to ring the engine bell and blow the horn for the kiddos.

The museum was hands-on and full of fun facts. Great for all ages.

This was a really fun little train ride at a very reasonable price. Beautiful views of the harbor and interesting information from the tour guide. Highly recommended for a budget friendly family activity!

So this was the least exciting museum on our New England trek. However this was the only museum that you could ride a full size narrow gauge RailRoad at. In fact the museum was simply a warehouse with several passenger train cars and an actual Model A or T converted to drive on the narrow gauge tracks. Toss in some random train working implements and you had the gist of it.

The trainride made the munchkin super happy and I enjoyed it as well. Its not every day you get to take a ride on an antique train.

Pro Tip #1: Go to the bathroom before getting on the train. They dont have a restroom on the train!

The museum is free to stroll around in while awaiting your ride on the train. AKA free with purchase *shrugs* I wouldnt have been there for the train if it hadnt been for the ride anyways. During the Christmas holiday season, they run a polar express. I think this would be a huge hit and that it would be very fun for any lil ones.

Pro Tip #2: Directions are kinda weird, just keep following the train signs and you will find this place. It is not exactly on the beaten path.

The ride was much shorter than i anticipated. However it was a great time hanging out in the engine. They let the munchkin sit in the conductors chair, blow the whistle, and ring the bell. Needless to say this made her pretty happy...

The funniest observation was that they old passenger cars in the museum had a wood stove in them. This was next to the bathroom. Within the bathroom was a sign that said not to use while the train was at the station. So you looked down and realized that the portal let straight down to the tracks. This led to the funniest moment here, as the munchkin decided it would be fun to pretend to use the potty haha Yeah I know all the rest of you would think just like that too!

It was a fun stop in retrospect, but I wouldnt ever go out of my way to come here. It was good for a leg stretcher on our way further North...
