Port Elizabeth Holidays

Port Elizabeth is a city in southeastern South Africa. Its coastal location and consistent good weather make it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Visitors flock year round to the sun drenched beaches to relax and partake in various water sports. The most popular beaches are Hobie, Kings, Humewood and Wells Estate, both ... Read more
for beauty and comfort as well as relative safety compared to other beaches in the area. The city has much to offer off the coast as well. As with many African cities, incredible wildlife viewing opportunities sit close by, namely the famed Addo Elephant Park and African Dawn Wildlife Sanctuary. Within the city’s boundaries visitors can learn about the area’s complex history at Donkin Reserve, a historical site named after early Western settlers, and South Africa’s rich culture at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum.

Ah my little town. I have called this often overlooked little gem of a place home for the last 16 years and I must admit that I still love it. Our beautiful beaches and the friendly people. The great places to eat and the beautiful scenery that exists for miles outside of the city. And let's not forget the temperate weather, because if you're anything like me, your favourite kind of weather is weather that doesn't make you feel obligated to talk about the weather, and there's no better place to find that kind of weather than here.

The city of Port Elizabeth signals the end of the Garden Route, as you then start to enter Wild Coast territory and move closer to Durban along the coastline. It certainly doesn't have the attractions that cities such as Cape Town and Durban offer, but is still a pleasant stop to break up your journey. The nearby Addo Elephant park is perhaps a better place to base yourself slightly further on from PE, with several nice lodges available right next to the park entrance. Expect plenty of elephants (surprisingly) as well as the rest of Africa's big five.

Very pretty and filled with old buildings. During August beautiful days but there is a chilly wind. Known as the Windy City.

This was to be the highlight of our trip to South Africa and boy it did not disappoint even a second. The Amakhala game reserve is located close to Port Elizabeth and is a malaria free big 5 game reserve. We had made reservations at the Hlosi game lodge which had two distinct propositions for us (1) It allowed young kids on the safari (2) Provided vegetarian food. The welcome was very friendly and we were ushered into our hut which was truly luxurious and had expansive views of the reserve.
