Description
The leaning Tower of Pisa is famous because it leans. Although it was designed to be perfectly vertical, it started to lean during construction. However, even without this famous characteristic, this ... Read more
building would still be one of the most remarkable architectural structures from medieval Europe. It stands at 60 metres and until 1990 was leaning at about a 10 degree angle. Tower of Pisa is more accurately referred to simply as the bell tower, or campanile. The Pisa tower is one of the four buildings that make up the cathedral complex in Pisa, Italy, called Campo dei Miracoli or Piazza dei Miracoli, which means Field of Miracles.

The tower itself is a lot smaller than I expected, but still awesome to see. The merchants and vendors chasing you down and putting stuff on your wrist makes the experience not one I want to do again.

Of course you need to come and see the tower when you are in the area. It was actually smaller than I thought it would be, but the whole complex around it was very beautiful. Lots of tourists posing for silly photos and lots of little souvenir stands. There was a long line to climb the tower, but was not planning to do that anyway.

On our way to Umbria (Asisi to be exact) we stop by to see this landmark.
My aunt thought we would like to see the Tower at Pisa. Yes!!

When we got there, it wasn't what I expected.
Well, Yes and No.
The towel was amazing. i didn't know you could go in it. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time. The wait was about an hour and we had just enough time for photo ops only.

The area going towards the tower is lined with a lot of stores. Merchants selling souvenirs. Watch your belonging here. There's a lot of pick pockets in that area.
I did not like that area, it felt like a bad farmers market to me.

I really enjoyed seeing the tower.
If you're adventurous, you should climb it.
Otherwise, see if you can get the best possible picture of the tower you can =)

A must see, but quite a disappointment! I expected it to be leaning more than it does. For some reason I was under the impression that it was in the middle of nowhere, but the buildings around it are also very interesting sites!

It's a "wow" moment when you step in the town of Pisa to see the Tower of Pisa. Then it's taking many shots to see which pose is better with Tower of Pisa.

The tower itself is an iconic and quintessential part of a European vacation, but it really has a cool and unique story. It leans way further than I thought it did, and it's kind of scary to contemplate it! One good earthquake and it will be down. Allegedly they've tried multiple times over the years to reinforce the side that's sinking, but to little avail. Soon, it will be unsafe and unsecured to stand alone and we may not have a leaning tower someday.

The leaning tower of Pisa is I think the best known tourist attraction in Pisa, it is quite entertaining to watch people take weird pictures with it further more it is really nice to go to the top of the tower.

While Pisa and the Leaning Tower may pale in comparison to some of the other sites in Tuscany, particularly those in Florence, I think you're doing yourself a disservice by not visiting this attraction.

Iconic and touristy, but you still gotta do it and visit this place if you're in Italy! You'll find all the people doing the same pushing pose. Try to be original and think of a new pose!

It's so funny to go here and see everyone trying to take perspective pictures of the tower! You don't need to spend long here, but it's a fun spot.

The leaning Tower of Pisa is a great place to stop for some scenic walking and photo ops. The tower and Cathedral are really beautiful but you cannot really spend more than a few hours at the location.

A world wide famous icon of Italy, and obviously I tried to take a picture keeping the tower up, but I also got to go inside, which I think is a real unique experience. I find it really interesting when walking up that you can really feel the effect of the slope (as expected). A great memory to remember.

The world's most famous tower, the leaning tower! All around people are taking pictures of themselves holding up the tower. Really great to experience!

Piazza del Duomo in Pisa is known as the "Square of Miracles", and in fact these architectures including the Leaning Tower are a true miracle.

Pisa has a long and storied past. It was the very epicenter of Roman maritime power for centuries, and after the Roman Empire collapsed it became a Republic. When the wars broke out between the Holy Roman Emperors and the Papacy, Pisa sided with the Emperor, which put it at odd with it's arch-rival Genoa. When the Emperor was defeated by the Pope, Pisa had to cede Corsica and Sardinia to Genoa, and Florence (another arch-rival) annexed Pisa.

Taking a photo at the tower is one of those things you do if you're in Pisa or just passing by. The tower is a must visit. Take a goofy photo or a serious one. It's just one of those things you have to do.

The tower was smaller than it seemed in pictures, but still exhilarating from the top. I recommend reading up on its history before you visit in order to really appreciate this structure.

Amazing to see how this thing is still standing after all these years. Very touristy, as you might imagine, but definitely a must see.

An awesome icon to see in person. Sadly, I didn't get to climb it - you generally have to make a reservation to do so.
