Good rate and right next to downtown. Can't argue with free breakfast and free parking!!

If downtown Phoenix is a cocktail party, then SpringHill Suites is standing in the corner alone. Yet the hotel is within walking distance of a lot of great stuff, especially the the Science Museum and Heritage Square, and I found the service extremely (almost militantly) professional. The place has all the amenities of a high-end hotel, like an outdoor pool and business center. Given its unexciting location, I'd recommend this place to upper-middle-class families traveling with kids.

This hotel's location means most downtown sites are within walking distance, but you don't have to shell out as much as you would for rooms closer to the heart of the city. The downside is that you're somewhat far from many restaurants and shops. It would be a bit of a walk. But these are suites so you can store food in this bigger rooms. This hotel also is a nicer option than others around town. The parking lot here is tiny and getting in and out of here can be tricky since the road in front of the hotel is so congested.

This is a busy hotel located just east of the downtown Phoenix business district. When I visited, there were quite a few business travelers there. The staff told me the hotel has been renovated in the last couple of years. I'm not surprised to hear that because everything looked really new and up to date. The hotel is quite large (not sure how many stories), but it seemed pretty quiet for a busy hotel. It probably helps that it's adjacent to a residential neighborhood, so if you want to stay slightly out of the downtown fray, this would be a good bet. Some of the amenities here include a free hot breakfast buffet, as well as a free "grab and go" continental breakfast for travelers taking off early. The hotel also offers complimentary airport shuttle. When I was visiting, one of the guests was told he would have to wait about a half hour before being able to catch the next shuttle, so definitely check the shuttle availability if that's important to you. Otherwise, the hotel might not be super exciting, but ti's a good place to catch your breath in between flights.

When I visited the Springhill Suites, it was in the middle of renovations, so things were a bit…dusty. By the looks of it, the whole hotel is getting a complete overhaul, which should be done by the end of July, 2013. As such, my views are going to be a bit incomplete, but I think I managed to get a pretty good idea of what the finished picture might look like. I was able to take a sneak peak at some of the remodeled rooms, and I must say I was impressed. As the name implies, each room is suite style, meaning it comes with an attached living area. The modern fixtures looked nice, very clean. The rooms come with not one but two flat-screen televisions, so if you’re coming with family you won’t have to fight over the channels, a pretty nice feature. I particularly liked the partition between the bedroom and living areas, which was cut away to make the whole room feel more open. There is a nice pool out back, so there’s a place to relax outside during the summer without melting.
