If you're a country with 7,000 islands in the South China Sea, chances are, there's going to be some serious natural beauty. The Philippines hasn't gained a reputation amongst travelers ... yet. But considering it has one of the world's largest coastlines -- fringed with coral reefs and teeming with tropical fish and manta rays -- don't expect the Philippines to stay a secret for long. Where else can you take a boat trip down a five-mile-long underground river but at the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park? Cosmopolitan Boracay Island's long stretches of pure white sand, welcoming hotels and swaying palm trees could best any Caribbean beach. Plus, all the while, you can eat the famed Filipino cuisine, reminiscent of the ... Read more
cultures who have influence the archipelago throughout history: Malays, Polynesians, Chinese, Spanish, native islanders. To witness the ingenuity and grit of pre-industrial age societies, take a tour of the Banaue Rice Terraces. If you can, arrive in the Philippines during one of its many festivals, such as the World Pyro Olympics (a smorgasbord of firework mayhem for days on end) or the Miss Earth beauty pageant (for the environmentally conscious) for an unforgettable vacation.
The weather conditions in the Philippines are at the mercy of habagat and amihan, two monsoon winds that sweep across the country from May to October and November to early May, respectively. The former brings heavy rains and even the occasional vacation-ruining typhoon, while the latter ushers in dry, hot weather, with spikes above 100°F (38°C) on the coast. With that said, there are a number of microclimates on the islands, and some places may see nary a sprinkle while the rest of the country wades through flooded streets. If your travel plans include time at coastal resorts, January through April is your best bet.

Some risk
Don't draw attention to your "valuables or money." Ask locals the going price of food/goods to avoid being hustled by merchants. "Dress moderately," except at touristy beaches. Don't leave your passport or any irreplaceable items in your room; keep them on you and hidden. Still, "the Philippines are safe, and you're unlikely to be hassled."

Boracay, stunning! Being that I'm from an island, this made me feel as though I was home even if it was miles, and miles away. For all of you adventure types and of course those who like to wind surf, there is an incredible windsurf town you need to visit!

I've been to El Nido Palawan in Philippines and it is a very nice place. I went on a few days trip with Nativ Exploration Palawan and explored the Bacuits Bay. Its juste amazing there.

A semi-tropical archipelago of some 8000 islands, the Philippines are an absolute highlight of SE Asia. Stunning mountains, gorgeous beaches, a unique blend of Spanish and Asian cultures, and some of the nicest people anywhere in the world. Best of all? The crowds from Thailand or Bali are nowhere to be found. Get outside the tourist enclaves in Boracay or Manila, and you'll find few westerners. It's ever so slightly more expensive than mainland SE Asia, but still solidly within the budget range.

I love the islands. I have never come to a place with so many beautiful beaches in my life. There are so many things to do in Philippines for all kinds of people. My favorite thing to do is to relax on a beach and enjoy how friendly the locals are, and trust me they are the friendliest and nicest I have meet.

Philippines has a lot of provinces... meaning a lot of festivals and other fun celebrations. :)
Philippines is one (if not the most) of the widest English speaking countries in Asia so you don't need to worry about communication at all. There's also a lot of friendly people willing enough to translate if you find it hard to understand what some natives are trying to say especially since some of them have heavy accent.

All in all, Philippines has a lot of beautiful places to boast such as Palawan, Cam Sur, Boracay, Pangasinan, etc.

Just try spending your vacation here (especially during summer) and you will never regret it. :)

---I've spent my 18 years in this imperfect but great country~

Being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language, it's about being able to influence and inspire other people. So whatever language you have as long as your heart is deserving and you have a strong mind to show to people, then you can be Miss Universe."
