Approaching the La Reserve, you'll be stuck by the gorgeous and inviting exterior; dual 19th-century row houses with matching red doors and potted window planters greet you. Inside you'll find Victorian charm mixed with modern amenities. The neighborhood has a casual vibe and is walking distance to the quirky Magic Gardens.

Located a stone’s throw from Rittenhouse Square, La Reserve combines two large red brick townhouses circa 1850, and the block of Pine Street on which the Inn is ensconced (and many of the surrounding blocks) offers a glimpse of a bygone era when Philadelphia was one of the nation’s three wealthiest cities—and the embodiment of a certain cultural type: the high toned, patrician WASP, later to famously settle along the Main Line towns west of Philadelphia's downtown. Anyhow, La Reserve's owners and staff don't offer up any of that patrician stuff, just welcoming friendliness and bonhomie. Comfortable and commodious rooms. Set foot out the front door onto Pine Street and you are in the heart of one of Philadelphia's most popular neighborhoods, known for good food and great places to sit down and people watch.

Oh my goodness, you guys … this B&B is just too cute for words. When I entered after ringing the doorbell, I instantly felt at home. The staff is attentive, friendly and fun to chat with. Located in one of Philadelphia’s nicest neighborhoods, this place really makes you realize how sterile the hotel experience can be. A complimentary breakfast is served in the mornings in the dining room and there’s a nice parlor area (complete with piano), that’s quiet and pleasant. There are rooms with private bathrooms, but there are also rooms with shared bathrooms (only two rooms share a bathroom) that are a bit cheaper. At first I was a bit put-off by the idea of sharing a bathroom with strangers, but once I saw that the bathrooms are beautifully maintained, I thought, “why not?” All in all, this is s good place, run by good people in a great location in Philadelphia that’s close to everything and located in a quaint, cozy neighborhood.

La Reserve has a real old world classy feel. All of the Rittenhouse area has the feel, actually. It's like the creme de la creme of Philadelphia. If you think Philly is all cheesesteaks and sports fan--go spend at night at La Reserve and see how the other half lives. Classy doesn't capture the whole feel though. It's also really warm and cozy and a bit like staying in a rich great aunts house. I had to resist snooping around for secret doorways and attics. You could really relax here, or you could really focus and get a lot of good thinking and working done. It's peaceful and private, and they provide a real substantial desk to sit at, and a classic comfy reading chair. It's hard to put my finger on why just the four stars...but I think its because it felt a little cramped and cluttered at times.

I walked in to the cheerful staff decorating the parlor room for the holidays together. They immediately dropped what they were doing to assist me. The atmosphere was so warm and unique. I was charmed by the Victorian bedroom decor, which managed to feel very comfortable, relaxed, and homey. There was a writing desk, positioned under a tall window, afternoon sunlight streaming in...swoon! You can spend all day walking to any of hundreds of shops, museums, parks, and restaurants, then come back here, stretch out and rest better than you would in your own home. Rittenhouse Square is only a few blocks away--perfect for a morning stroll with coffee in hand, or a lazy afternoon with a magazine. Or you could just sit in La Reserve's own private courtyard and get the same towering trees against brick effect.
