Paris's finest church is a great example of Gothic architecture. It sits on the western edge of the Île de la Cité, an island in the middle of the Seine river that was once the center of medieval ... Read more
Paris. Construction on the masterpiece began in the 1160's, and cathedral immediately became a center of the religious world in France (the call to the Third Crusade was announced from within its unfinished walls). The towering church features the largest organ in France and a stained-glass window donated by King Saint Louis. In 1944, the church bells rang here to announce that Paris had been liberated from the Germans.

Free to visit. Usually there is a line but it moves rather quickly. To go up to the tower there is a different line, however. You must get there early if you want to go up and see the bells.

A Paris icon that is viewed best from inside and out, this is a must-see for any visitor. Try and catch a mass for a truly Parisian experience.

Its a steep climb to the top but the views will be so worth it! If you plan to see more than a few museums, a museum pass is worth it and you get to skip the slow lines.

The Cathedral is one impressive French Gothic medieval building. We visited on Sunday morning and explored its exterior but found the queues too long and postponed the tour of the interior and the climb up its towers for another time, hopefully not in the very distant future.

Beautifully crafted. It stands out from a lot of the other landmarks in Paris.

This cathedral is a must see! You might be tempted to not go inside because of the long lines, but the lines move fast, and it's worth the wait! Be very careful about pickpocketers in this area... they are everywhere because of the amount of tourists waiting in line.

IMPORTANT... DO NOT be scared away by the long lines (like I was originally)! Not only do they move SUPER FAST but it is also free to enter! The experience was much better than anticipated for one of the world's most famous landmarks. They even do free tours throughout the day in different languages. Definitely worth seeing and going into! It was really amazing because the church is 850 years old! Much older than most churches and it looked completely different than in design than it's younger siblings around Europe.

A catholic's must visit, when in Paris. The cathedral is beautiful (inside and out)
Yes, it's elbow to elbow tourist destination (for all), but it is definitely worth a visit.

I can't do a trip to Paris without visiting Notre Dame. The climb up the towers is well worth the wait (plan to arrive early to beat the line, or try for a weekday) as the views of Paris are spectacular.

Beautiful cathedral and one of the most famous, we chose not to pay the fee to enter but it was nice to see from the outside.

Entry into the cathedral is free. There are concerts held there occassionally which don't cost that much.

Impressive both inside and out, the scale of this building alone will impress. Located on the beautiful Ile de la Cite, after visiting the Cathedral wander down on to the riverside paths of the island for pleasant views and a quiet place to sit and take it all in.

This gothic church is another of the many outstanding buildings in Paris. It is a must see and you should also see the cathacombs under it.

This Cathedral is absolutely amazing. Not only is it beautiful from the front, but once you get an opportunity to walk around the Cathedral you will be amazed at the beautiful architechture. You think the outside is amazing wait until you get inside! Make sure you don't take pictures, it is not allowed inside.

Notre Dame du Paris is my favorite cathedral. I love the gargoyles, the rose window, the atmosphere inside. The best part is being able to go up to the roof, stand next to the gargoyles and look out over the roofs of the city.

When you come to Paris, it's pretty much a must to visit the Notre Dame Cathedral! It's very impressive, even if you only check it out from the outside, but I do recommend heading in. It's free to visit! Don't miss the gargoyles on the exterior and the brilliant French Gothic architecture.
