Description
For museum lovers, this is the art mothership. Originally built as a 12th century fortress, it was turned into a royal palace in the 14th century. The latest addition is architect I.M. Pei's glass ... Read more
pyramid, a controversially modern update to the oh-so-traditional building that allows sunlight to filter to the underground lobby. There is enough art for a lifetime on display here; three wings and about 35,000 pieces, to be exact. Look for the crowds of visitors to steal a glimpse at a much-smaller-in-real-life Mona Lisa hiding behind them.

Beautiful pieces even for someones who's not a natural art lover. Use the Paris museum pass or buy tickets online to avoid unnecessary lines.

Amazing experience! We spent a few hours at the Louvre and my family aren't really museum people. There is also a shopping mall inside.

Very well curated. A lot of amazing art. Take your time. Multi-day Museum pass may be worth it you plan on seeing multiple places. Plus it slips the louvre entrance line. They're also open late on select days. I loved going at night bc it was significantly less crowded.

The Location: Metro #1 & 7, Exit :Palais-Royal Musee du Louvre. The underground metro connect directly to the museum building. You will pass the shopping area then go through the security. After pass the security, information booth is there and also ticketing windows.

The Admission: 15 euro

There are 3 sections of the museum. Take the museum brochure/map with you. There are thousands & thousand of art works. If you want to see every single piece of art...... it is going to take more than one visit!!!

The BIGGEST museum I have ever been too!! The collection they have... UNBELIEVABLE!!

The first piece of art I went to see - the one and only.... MONA LISA!!!

If you only have time for one museum... this has to be the one!!! You won't regret~

Endless collections of art styles and formats. Make sure to book half a day to fully enjoy it.

There is a surprising collection of “art objects” including classic furniture and royal palace decorations.

A place that speaks for itself. While many will come for a few of the famous paintings, the museum has so much to offer and truly requires a great length of time to be enjoyed.

Can be crowded and is most enjoyed in the off season like December. Pre buy tickets to avoid lines. Don't try and see it all there's too much.

We originally wanted to just stopped by the Louvre since we read that 1 day was not enough to check out all of louvre and it seemed like a time waster but once we were there , i really fell in love with it and really wanted to just give it a whirl.
We ended up really loving everything about the Louvre and def. will recommend this as a must see spot. I mean, the history , the art and the beauty it really does not compare to any other museums you see at the MET in NY or anything Ive ever experienced in school. Seeing some of these pieces in person was really amazing to say the very least.

Tickets are about $15 per person i believe but the first of every month its free, also go there EARLY ! We read the lines go in and out the doors so we feared that and thankfully were one of the first people that enter so no line was ever to scary!

The world's most well known museum! Be prepare for the crowd, especially insane around the Mona Lisa! Throughly enjoyed the Italian and French paintings, will need to revisit for the rest of the museum! 5 hours does not begin to describe the time you'll need for the Louvre! Perhaps weeks!

You could spend all your holiday at the Louvre and probably you would still not have enough time to take in all that this museum has to offer. The Louvre palace itself with its grand architecture and the surrounding grounds are an attraction and deserve some time for exploring as well. Entering through the Sully Wing, visitors will see the well preserved foundations of the ancient fortress on top of which the palace was built. In the time allocated, which was certainly not enough, I managed to view most of this wing which includes Greek, Etruscan and Roman artifacts. Then I moved on to the Richelieu wing viewing mostly French sculptures and paintings. My mission was to find one, less known, exhibit namely La Valette's sword. Being Maltese, this exhibit has significant ties since La Valette was the Grand Master of the Knights responsible to build Valletta, Malta's capital city. Finally I concluded the visit in the Denon Wing which also hosts numerous paintings, amongst which Leonardo's iconic Mona Lisa. In truth, in comparison to other works of art, it is rather underwhelming but it certainly is one of the most prestigious and the one that attracts most people. The afternoon was over and I had not toured enough. I definitely have to come back!

You will need a few hours and comfy shoes to explore the louvre. Pickpockets are notorious so keep an eye on your belongings at all times!

Beautiful inside and out. The architecture is just as amazing as the artwork the building holds.

Delacroix Exhibit at the Louvre
1st Arrondissement
All week
A landmark exhibition. The most famous Parisian museum is devoting an exceptional exhibit to Eugène Delacroix, one of the biggest names in the history of art. Bringing together more than 180 of his works, ranging from the most famous paintings, and drawings and prints to his last little-known compositions, the exhibition presents the visitor with a complex body of work oscillating between originality and tradition.
