white silhouette visible from many points in the city. The entire building is constructed of travertine, a type of stone that produces calcite, a mineral that gives the church its pure white color. A beautiful mosaic and artfully constructed crypts are of particular interest within the church. Services are held regularly in the church, and tourists are expected to dress and behave appropriately at all times.

It’s a trek to get to Sacre Coeur but it offers a more laid back, artsy area of Paris.

This hike up to this beautiful church is pretty epic. The view from it is also incredible. I unfortunately wasn't able to go inside because this is one of the many churches in Europe that doesn't let you in if you are not fully covered up; meaning no shorts or tank tops.

If you can make it up the 18463884 stairs, you will be able to see one of the most panoramic voews of Paris! It also a really nice background for instagram worthy pictures! If you look around you might spot some artists singing or performing on the stairs which just adds a bit of magic to it.

ride the Funicular up to the top; but no trip here is complete without a walk around the corner to one of my favorite spots in Paris-Monmarte. Shop or just watch the artists work; it's a beautiful. quaint little world.

Climb the hill or take the funicular up to Sacre-Coeur for a beautiful panoramic view of Paris. Peep inside the church; admission is free. Come at dusk, pack a picnic, sit on the steps, and watch a beautiful sunset. The building looks beautiful in the golden hour.

Paid a couple euros to walk the stairs up to the top. It really was about 300+ stairs. Views were spectacular despite the rain. The church itself was nice on the inside, but people were very disrespectful about being quiet.

Beautiful building on the hill of Montmartre with great views looking back to Paris. The walk through the adjacent park up to entrance is lined with hard selling locals trying to flog you tacky bracelets. They will have one on your wrist before you know it and ask for money. Interior is beautiful and ornate.

It's located at the highest point in Paris, you need to climb up to the top to see the church. The view at the top is amazing! Plus you get to listen to harp playing.

Local from Paris, France

Perched at the zenith of Montmartre hill, Sacré-Cœur’s domes shine out across the city and offer mesmerising views. Begun in 1875, this mock Romano-Byzantine wonder is a symbol of the previous wranglings between the Catholics and Republicans. Finally declared sacred in 1919 (its name means Sacred Heart), the Sacre Coeur offers visitors an authentic experience. Its interior is laden with towering arches and exuberant mosaics which create a serene innocence. Though drama is not far from reach. Mass, which is held at varying periods during the week, conjures a real sense of theatricality with nuns and priests singing impassioned and melancholy chants over haunting pipe organs. Even for agnostics it's stirring stuff. It won't leave the heart untouched.

They say it sounds like heaven inside. It's a very beautiful cathedral. Outside, you can take a lift to get to the cathedral, but you can also save your money and walk up the stairs.
